AMY SHIFFLETT BRUCE
GRAHAM – Mrs. Amy Shiflett Bruce, 90, of Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance, died at 8:11 a.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999, at the center after a long illness. A native of Albemarle County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. William Lester Bruce and the daughter of Mr. Martin Luther Shiflett and Mrs. Rosa Elizabeth Price Shiflett, both deceased. She was a Methodist. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Dot) Eason of Graham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Mildred Lucille Bruce; and a son, Mr. Homer V. Bruce. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Teague Funeral Home Chapel in Charlottesville, Va. Burial will be in Gentry’s Cemetery in Albemarle County, Va. The family will be at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Va., from 7 to 8:30 Tuesday evening. Rich and Thompson Funeral Service provided local information.

CROZET - Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Ellen Bruce, wife of John R. Bruce, who died Saturday morning, will be held Monday afternoon at the Episcopal Church at Mission Home, with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bruce was a daughter of the late Jack and Fannie Morris Frazier and was 46 years old. She is survived by her second husband, John R. Bruce, and five children, Alex and E. M. McCauley of Ivy, Mrs. N. M. Walton of Boonesville, Mrs. J. C. Miller of Mt. Solon and Mrs. C. E. Miller of Berwyn, Md. Mrs. Bruce also leaves three brothers and three sisters, Fountain Frazier of Lydia, Eugene Frazier of Mt. Fiar, National Frazier of Doylesville, Mrs. John McAllister of Crozet, Mrs. Annie Roach and Miss Altie Frazier of Mt. Fair.

Betty Jo "B. J." Bruce, 60, of Charlottesville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 26, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 28, 1949, the daughter of Doris Bruce and "Dad" Phil Davis of White Hall. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis W. Bruce Sr. She is survived by her son, Carroll Lee Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Ellen, of Charlottesville; a sister, Linda Carver and her husband, Jimmy, of Waynesboro; three brothers, D.W. Bruce of White Hall, Michael Bruce and his wife, Debbie, of Charlottesville, and Kenny Bruce and his wife, Wanda, of White Hall. In addition, she is survived by several loving nieces, Vicky, Erin, Sarah and Kristy; nephew, Brandon; greaT-nieces, Lexi and Caris; and great-nephews, McKinley, Mitchell, Nicholas and Elias; cousins and many close loving friends. She was a member of Mount Moriah United Methodist Church and a member of the Charlottesville Moose Lodge. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Timothy Short and the nursing staff on the 5th Floor at Martha Jefferson Hospital, and a special thank you to Jerry Caplin's family for their kindness and support. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Teague Funeral Home. THE DEATH RECORD - Mrs. Beulah Bruce, aged 18 years, died at the home of her Aunt, Mrs. Blanche Stanley, Feb. 18, 1928. Mrs. Bruce was the daughter of Mr. Jack Shiflett, of Sullivan, and she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Cora Cash, of Elkton; her husband Mr. Lacey Bruce, of Albemarle County; one sister, Mrs. Harry Stanley; two brothers, Herbert Shiflett, of Elkton, and Arthur Shiflett of Charlottesville; three aunts, Mrs. Stanley; Mrs. Nellie Shiflett of Nortonsville, and Mrs. Silas Shiflett, and three uncles, Charlie and Lawrence Shiflett, of Sullivan, and Oscar Shiflett, of Grottoes. Funeral services were held at the United Brethren Church Monday following at 2 P.M., Rev. J.W. Stern conducting the service. She was buried in Elk Run Cemetery, Elkton. The pall-bearers were, Messers. Louis Chisholm, of Charlottesville; Clyde Shiflett, Floyd Brill, Ike Pittington, Layton Deane, and Bernard Lam, all of Elkton. The flower girls were Misses Mildred Blose, Hazel and Mae Saum and Edna Shiflett, Mrs. Talley Stanley, and Mrs. Bettie Lu Knight. Carol Bruce Beauchamp, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Foulk Manor South, Wilmington, DE. A longtime resident of Newark, DE, she was predeceased by her husband, Creston Meredith Beauchamp, who passed away in 1981. Carol was a faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where she frequently volunteered. In addition to helping out in the church office, she was a familiar and well-loved face in the church kitchen, where she particularly enjoyed spending her time. She also participated in cooking and home-oriented clubs. Her other two passions were bowling and traveling: for decades, Carol bowled in weekly leagues at Newark's Blue Hen Lanes, and she enjoyed taking bus tours throughout the country with her sister-in-law, Mildred Burdette, who predeceased her. Carol is survived by her sister, Jean Mancuso; sons, Charles Meredith Beauchamp, Sr., Marshall David Beauchamp, and Donald Ross Beauchamp; and three grandchildren, Charles M. Beauchamp, Jr., Camber Chippendale Beauchamp, and Aria Chippendale Beauchamp. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 23, 2010, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 276 South College Ave, Newark, DE 19711-5235. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, Nottingham Road, Newark. Carolyn was born in Bartonville Nov. 3, 1932. She leaves her parents; four brothers, Pfc. Lester J. Bruce, with the army in Germany; Harland Bruce, seaman second class in the Navy; Harold and Oscar E Bruce, Jr., at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Schwindenhammer, Mrs. Martha Linder and Bertha Florence all of Bartonville. Clara Bell Bruce, 76, of McGaheysville died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Nov. 12. Mrs. Bruce was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Elkton and was a daughter of the late William Burman Bruce and Sidney Frances Shifflett Bruce. She retired from Marvel Poultry and attended the Pentecostal Church. Survivors include three sons, David Bruce of Dyke, Greg Roach of Elkton and Roger Bruce of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Barbara Criasia of Milford, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Eula May Meadows, 74, of 116 Lewis St., Elkton, died Jan. 4, l991 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital She had been ill for three year. She was born March 29, 1916, In Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late William and Sidney Prance Shifflett Bruce. She lived her entire life near Elkton. She retired 12 years ago and was a member of the Upper Room Church. On June 9, 1959, she married Alonzo Pierre Meadows, who survive. Also surviving are a sister, Clara Bruce of Elkton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. Johnny Hensley will conduct a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday at the Upper Room Church. The body was cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends at any time at Mrs. Meadow’s home.

Besides her husband, John William Bruce, she is survived by three daughters and one son – Mrs. Lula Morris, of Dundalk, Md.; Mrs. Clara Shiflett and George W. Bruce, both of the county. She also leaves one brother; R. L Wood, of Crozet, and a sister, Mrs. Artelia Lamb, of the county. The funeral will be held at 1 o’clock tomorrow afternoon from Prize Hill Church of Boonesville, the service to be conducted by the Rev. G. L. Maupin assisted by the Rev. Freeman Fisk. Burial will be in the churchyard.

Fred Walton Bruce, 61, died Saturday, July 13, 1985 near his home in Boonesville, Va. He was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Albemarle County. He was the son of the late Harry Cole Bruce and Mary Virginia Walton Bruce. Surviving are his wife, Leola Phillips Bruce; one stepson, Lanny Dwane Phillips, Fishersville, Va.; one brother, Earl Bruce, White Hall, Va.; one grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was a spot welder at the Acme Visible Records Co., in Crozet, and a member of the good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Boonesville, Va. Bruce of Stuarts Draft; three daughters, Betty Jean Lucas, Madeline Jane Bruce and Irene Joyce Kale, all of Staunton; a sister, Mary Ann Knight of Port Republic; a brother, Jim Bruce, also of Port Republic; eight grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church at Elkton by the Rev. Homer Lee Frazier. ELKTON - Harold Ludwell Bruce, 55, of Rt. 2 Elkton died Sunday at his home. He had not been well for some time. He was born Oct. 7, 1919 in Rockingham County and was a son of the Late George R. and Elsie Belle Breeden. He served In the Army during World War II. He was married to the former Grace Yoder, who died Aug. 3, 1971. Surviving are a daughter. Mrs. Virginia McGown of Pennsylvania; a brother, Joe Bruce of Lynchburg; five Sisters, Mrs. Lillie Shifflett of McGaheysville, Mrs. Alva Rogers of Dayton, Ohio and Mrs. Mamie Culp, Mrs. Hallie Watkins and Mrs. Eleanor Smith, all of Elkton, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Johnny E. Hensley and the Rev. James B. Martin. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Mt. Harry C. Bruce, 80, of Boonesville died yesterday in a Charlottesville Nursing Home. He was born March 25, 1888, in Albemarle County, son of the late Horace C. Bruce and Mary Shifflett Bruce. He was the widower of Mary Virginia Bruce. Surviving are three sons, Earl Bruce and Dennis Bruce of White Hall, and Fred Bruce of Boonesville; one sister, Mrs. Warren Davis of Boonesville and ten grandchildren. Homer Venson Bruce, 72, of Boonesville, died Saturday, July 20, 1996. Born in Ivy on May 18, 1924, he was a son of Amy Beatrice Shifflett Bruce and the late William Lester Bruce. Homer served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He retired from ConAgra after many years of service. He was a former member of the White Hall Ruritan Club and attended Gentry's United Methodist Church. Survivors include his mother, Amy Bruce of Dyke; his wife, Alease Walton Bruce; his son Gregory W. Bruce; one sister, Dorothy Bruce Eason, and many other family members and friends who will miss him greatly. In addition to his father, he was proceeded in death by a sister and a son. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 am, Tuesday in Gentry's United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Herbert T. parker officiating. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p. m. James "Jim" Ernest Bruce, 82, of Harrisonburg died in the emergency room of Rockingham Memorial Hospital Monday, Nov. 8, 2004. He had been in failing health for the last several years. Mr. Bruce was born in Albemarle County July 9, 1922, and was the son of the late Simpson and Ruthie Ann Shifflett Bruce. He lived his entire life in the Port Republic community of Rockingham County. He is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Knight of Port Republic and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The Revs. Homer Frazier and Rev. Ronald Spencer will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Friday at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The funeral of James H. Bruce, who died at a local hospital Friday morning, was held at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon at Prize Hill Church at Boonesville, the service being conducted by Capt. Funeral and burial rites for John William Bruce will be held this afternoon at Prize Hill church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Fiske of the Episcopal Church. Mr. Bruce a retired farmer, the son of Harry and Emily Adams Bruce, died after a brief illness of pneumonia, at his home near Boonesville. He was eighty-five years old. His wife the former Miss Georgiana Wood, died last August. One son, George Bruce, and three daughters, Mrs. Laura Rowe, Mrs. Lula Morris and Mrs. Clara Shiflett, with ten grandchildren survive.

She was born Aug. 17, 1875, in Albemarle County. Her husband died in February 1957. She is survived by two sons, James Shiflet of Lynchburg and George Shiflett of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Mrs. Mittie Walton and Mrs. Fannie McAllister, both of Charlottesville; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Born May 8, 1865, in Albemarle County, she was a daughter of the late Berry and Lucy Hall Walton. She and her husband owned and operated the Bruce Greater Shows here for more that 50 years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Henry I. Davis of Boonesville, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Prize Hill Church here, with burial in the church cemetery

Mary Frances Widdowfield, 76 of Elkton, passed away July 12, 2015 in Harrisonburg. Mrs. Widdowfield was born June 16, 1939 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Ollie Lee and Elsie Lee Shifflett Bruce. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and loved crossword puzzles, muscle cars and Cadillacs. As the oldest of nine children, she took care of her siblings growing up, and her parents as they grew older. She loved to cook, and was a loving and giving person to whoever was in need. She retired as a Home Health Care Provider after many years of service. Mrs. Widdowfield is survived by her daughter, Angela Widdowfield, Elkton, sons, Buddy Bruce & wife, Pat, Elkton, Donald W. Morris & wife, Kim, Colonial Beach, Va., Darrel L. Morris, Elkton; brothers, Ollie Bruce, McGaheysville, James Bruce & wife, Lori, Alexandria, Va., Gene Bruce & wife, Julie, Elkton, Donnie Bruce & wife, Debbie, Elkton; sisters; Janet Shifflett, Elkton, Shirley Eppard & husband, Johnny, McGaheysville, Lottie Diehl & husband, Richard, Alexandria, La.; a sister in law, Alice Morris, Elkton; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bruce; and her former husband, Donald B. Widdowfield. The Rev. Wayne Pence will conduct the graveside service 11:00 am Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. The family will receive friends 6 to 8pm Tuesday evening (tonight) at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Melvin Horace Bruce, 31 year old truck driver killed in a one vehicle accident, Tuesday night will be buried tomorrow at the Prize Hill Church Cemetery at Boonesville. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the church. Mr. Bruce was found dead about 7 a.m. yesterday inside the cab of his truck, which had skidded off State Rt. 6 and down a 20 foot bank near the Albemarle-Nelson line. Mr. Bruce had been dead about 12 hours when the town sergeant of Schuyler discovered the accident. Dr. W. E. Moody, medical examiner, this morning said, Mr. Bruce had been killed instantly and placed the time of death about 8 p.m. Tuesday. State Police Headquarters at Appomattox said the accident happened when the truck Mr. Bruce was driving west went off the outside of a curve 12 miles west of Scottsville, just three-tenths of a mile inside the Albemarle County line. The truck was owned by the Holsum Bread Company of Verona. Mr. Bruce, who lived on the Old Lynchburg Road, here, worked a bakery delivery route for the bread company. Mr. Bruce was born Aug. 4, 1929, at Boonesville. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Bruce of Boonesville, who survive. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Gloria D. Newton, whom he married in February of this year. He also leaves a son, Melvin Horace Bruce Jr. of Charlottesville, by a previous marriage; and three brothers, Earl Bruce and Dennis Bruce of White Hall and Fred Bruce of Boonesville.

Melvin Horace Jr., 48, of Culpeper, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at his mother’s home in Charlottesville. Born in Baltimore on May 10, 1950, he was the son of the Rev. Stella B. Creaney and her husband Joseph C. Creaney, both of Charlottesville and Flagler Beach, Fla., and the late Melvin Horace Bruce Sr. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Laura A. Bruce, and her fiancée, Michael Terry both of Charlottesville. Mr. Bruce served Bell Atlantic’s fleet operations for 30 years. His latest position was fleet operations manager for Virginia and West Virginia. He was an avid outdoorsman and a collector of classic cars. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Prize Hill Church in Boonesville with the Rev. Peter T. Way officiating. Interment will follow in Prize Hill Cemetery. Services for Mrs. Florence Bruce, 74, of 504 Franklin St., Bartonsville, who was dead on arrival at Pekin Memorial Hospital at 6:45 a.m. yesterday, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyng Memorial Church. The Rev. Wesley Hunt will officiate and burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at Stone Mortuary in Bartonville after 4 p.m. tomorrow. A Bartonville resident for 49 years, Mrs. Bruce had lived at present address for 42 years. She was born at Mount Faire in Albemarle County, Va., April 14, 1891, a daughter of James Franklin and Cornelia Morris, and was married to Oscar Bruce at Galesburg June 23, 1913. She was a member of Tyng Memorial Church and a former member of Bartonville Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, four sons, Lester, Harold, Harlan and Oscar Bruce Jr., all of Bartonville, three daughters, Mrs. Louise Schwindenhammer, and Mrs. Martha Linder, both of Bartonville and Mrs. Bertha Bitner of Bellevue; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rosie Shifflett of Augusta Springs, Va., and Mrs. Nealie Wood of Staunton, Va., and one brother, David Morris of Craigville, Va. A daughter and three brothers preceded her in death.

Ollie O'dell Bruce "Dale," 57, of McGaheysville, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, July 19, 2018, at his home. He was born Aug. 8, 1960, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of the late Ollie and Elsie Shifflett Bruce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Bruce, and a sister, Mary Widdowfield. Dale graduated from Montevideo High School in 1978 and was last employed at Great Eastern Resort, where he worked in golf course maintenance 18 years ago. He was a Washington Redskins fan and liked fishing in his spare time. He was a traveler in his younger years and you would have to wonder where he would be when he called. Dale once threw his brother's dog in the river to fetch a stick and had to go after the dog because it could not swim. He dearly loved his dog, P.J. He is survived by three brothers, James "Jim" Bruce and wife, Lori, of Alexandria, Carroll Bruce and wife, Julie, and Donnie Bruce and wife, Debbie, all of Elkton; three sisters, Janet Shifflett of Elkton, Lottie Diehl and husband, Richard, of Louisiana, and Shirley Eppard of McGaheysville; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also visit his home at anytime. Services for Oscar Bruce, 82, of 504 Franklin, Bartonville, who died at his home at 8:15 a.m. yesterday, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bartonville Davison Funeral home. The Rev. John Bagley of Memorial Baptist Church and the Rev Bertram Betteridge of Grace Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. A coal miner most of his life, Mr. Bruce was employed by the Laidlaw Corp. before he retired. He was born in Augusta County, Va., Feb. 16, 1894, a son of Layton Earl and Ella Katherine McCallister Bruce, and first married Henny Florence Morris at Galesburg on June 23, 1913. After her death he then married Bessie C. Gordon at Craigsville, Va., April 20, 1966. A member of Memorial Baptist Church of East Peoria he formerly served on the board of deacons there. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Harlan of Metropolis, Lester of East Peoria and Oscar Jr. and Harold, both of Bartonville; and three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Bertha) Bitner of Bellevue, and Mrs. Louis (Louise) Schwindenhammer and Mrs. Kenneth (Martha) Linder, both of Bartonville. Raymond Edward Bruce, 80, of Palmyra, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 8, 2008. He was born October 28, 1928, in Albemarle County, to the late Raymond Claude Bruce and the late Lillie Sullivan Bruce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Claude L. Bruce and Kenneth Leroy Bruce. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janna Lee Bruce of 60 years; one daughter, Joan Breeden Shifflett and her husband, Monty, of Gordonsville; two grandchildren, Kim Warner and her husband, Steve; and Earl "Buck" Breeden and his wife, Laura; three great-grandchildren, Amber Warner, Austin and Emma Breeden; one sister, Viola Lucille Frazier of Greene County; and numerous extended family and friends. He was retired from Pepsi after 49 years of service. He loved to be outdoors doing his favorite things, cutting the grass and talking with friends, especially John Turner. Robert Finks Bruce, 61, of 311 Spruce St., a retired farmer, died Monday in a Staunton hospital,. He was married to the late Susie Hurt Bruce. Born in Greene County April 13, 1903, he was the son of the late James A. and Frances Estes Bruce. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Myrtle Ripley of Scottsville; two brothers, C. W. Bruce of Earlysville and U. J. Bruce of Baltimore, Md.; and a sister, Mrs. Mary E. Collier of Charlottesville. A funeral service will be held at 1 p. m. tomorrow at Hawkins Funeral Chapel, with burial in the family cemetery in Greene County.

She was born December 6, 1943, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Anna Majewel Doyle Harris.She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren of Crimora. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Harris and Tracey Harris. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Otho N. Bruce; a son, Victor N. Bruce and his wife, Paula, of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Karen M. Campbell and her husband, Frankie, of Staunton, and Sandra K. BOONESVILLE – Mrs. Murray Virginia Bruce, 64, died yesterday at a Charlottesville hospital. Born Oct. 18, 1898 in Albemarle County, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Angie Hall Walton. Surviving are her husband Harry C. Bruce of White Hall and Fred Bruce of Boonesville; a brother, George Walton of Boonesville; and nine grandchildren. William Henry Bruce, 78, a resident of Harrisonburg for ten years, died at 1:30 Monday afternoon at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bruce had not been well for the past three months. A son of the late Berriman Bruce and Isata Shifflett Bruce, he was born Nov. 3, 1883 at Island Ford. A farmer and carpenter, he later lived in Shenandoah and McGaheysville prior to moving to Harrisonburg. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet UCC. Mr. Bruce was twice married. On .January 12, l906 he married Miss Justine Davis who preceded him in death, in l936. On Jan. 25, 1937, he married Mrs. Blanche Lambert Puffenbarger, who survives. Besides his wife, be. is survived by three children, Mrs. Beauford all, of Santa Anna, Calif.; Elmer M. Bruce, of Arlington: and Mrs. John Leffel, of Harrisonburg; and nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves three step-children, Mrs. Jesse Cowger, of Baltimore; John Puffenburgcr, Jr., of Centerville; and Mrs. David Myers, of Silver Spring, Md.; and six step-grandchildren. Mr. Bruce was the surviving member of a family of 13 children. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Thursday from the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel M. Smucker Jr., will conduct the services and burial will be in the McGaheysville Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where members of the family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 8:30. Relatives will meet at his late home, 532 East Wolfe Street at 10:40 Thursday for a brief service prior to leaving for the funeral chapel. Active pallbearers will be David E. Myers. Reese Hensley, Wilmer L. Armstrong, William A. Thomas, Harry F. Bowman, J. M. Updike, and Robert L. Shifflett.

ELKTON - William Marcus Bruce, 74, of Windsor, Pa., and formerly of Elkton died early Monday morning at his home. Mr. Bruce, who had been ill 10 years, was born Aug. 2, 1909, in Covington and was a son of the late William Burman and Sydnie Frances Shifflett Bruce. He lived most of his life in Elkton before moving to Windsor in 1978. He was a carpenter and a member of Elkton Pentecostal Church. Surviving are a brother, Ollie Lee Bruce of Esmont; and three sisters, Eula M. Meadows and Clara B. Bruce, both of Elkton, and Margaret Kesselring of Windsor. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Elk Run Cemetery by the Rev. Homer Lee Frazier. The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where friends may call.
