ANNIE MARIE HANEY
Annie Marie "Polly" Haney, 82, of Barboursville, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006,
at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was born
December 9, 1923, in Orange County and was the daughter of the late Winnie Edgar
Morris and Allie Lamb Morris. She was married to the late Harvey Lee Haney and
was a member of the Union Grove Christian Church, Eheart and retired from
Teledyne Avionics, Charlottesville. Mrs. Haney is survived by three daughters,
Barbara Jenkins and her husband, Russell, of Barboursville, Linda Blankenship
and her husband, Eddie, of Unionville, and Marilyn Hanner and her husband,
Clyde, of Rapidan; one sister, Anna Haney Shifflett and her husband, Malvin, of
Barboursville; seven grandchildren, Chuck Jenkins, Chris Jenkins, Mike
Blankenship, Monica Breeden, Trip Hanner, Gabe Hanner, Quinn Hanner; and three
great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence
Morris and Roy Morris; and a granddaughter, Pamela Key Jenkins. Funeral services
will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel,
Gordonsville, with interment in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. David Whitten will
officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, March

Shifflett Funeral, Elkton - The funeral for Blanche Dorothy Shifflett, 100, of
Rt. 3, Elkton will be held 11 am Saturday at Evangelical United Methodist
Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald Davidson, and burial
will be in Elk Run Cemetery. Mrs. Shifflett died Wednesday evening at her home.
She was born in Greene County June 12, 1885, and was the daughter of the late
Jerry and Mary Ellen Breeden Haney. She was a member of the Evangelical United

CHARLOTTE MAXINE HANEY MADISON
Charlotte Maxine Madison, 73, of Ruckersville, formerly of Barboursville, was
called home on Thursday, July 18, 2013. Maxine was born on March 23, 1940, to
Jerry Maxwell Haney and Virginia Shifflett Haney and was preceded in death by
her father and mother; the love of her life, Marvin Woodrow Madison Sr.; and a
sister, Gladys Mildred Haney. She was a long-time employee at Western Sizzlin in
Charlottesville, where she was well-known and loved by her "regulars". Family
and friends will remember Maxine as a loving care-giver, protector and provider,
a wonderful southern cook, and an avid reader. She was a member of Gordonsville
Baptist Church and former member of Union Grove Christian Church in
Barboursville. Survivors include three devoted sons and "beautiful
daughters-in-law," Marvin W. Jr. "Marty" and Betty of Barboursville, Jerry
Michael and Sandra of Palmyra, and Charles Matthew and Amber of Ruckersville;
her sister and best buddy, Bonnie Sullivan of Earlysville; brother and extra
special sister-in-law, Jerry M. Haney and Masako of Barboursville;
granddaughters, Tara and boyfriend, Stevie, of High Point, NC, and Katrina and
boyfriend, Mark, of South Riding; grandson, Jerry and girlfriend, Dana, of
Charlottesville; and granddaughter, Morgan Kowaleski and husband, Chris, of Fort
Bliss, El Paso, TX, formerly of Palmyra; granddaughter, Andrea and grandson,
Alexander, of Ruckersville; great-grandsons, Marvin Wenner of High Point, NC,
Jordan Madison of Charlottesville, and Nikolas Kowaleski; special
great-grandchildren, Dustin and Krystan of High Point, NC; two very special
sons, William Washington of Orange, and Ernest Ray Dinkens of Gordonsville; and
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. A celebration of
Maxine's legacy will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Preddy's Funeral
Home in Gordonsville, with interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family
will receive visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Preddy's

Charlotte Morris Haney, 73, of Free Union died Friday, November 16, 1990, at her
residence. Born in Albemarle County on July 5, 1917, she was a daughter of the
late William Durrette and Gracie Sullivan Morris. Mrs. Haney was a member of
Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church at Boonesville. She is survived by
her husband, G. Edward Haney of Free Union; her family, Mike Morris of Free
Union; Barbara Bickers of Alexandria; Julian Thomas of Palmyra; Stuart Thomas of
Muncie, Indiana; James Morris of Holiday, Fla.; four grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; her sisters, Hallie Gibson of Free Union and Madeline
Sullivan of Earlysville; her brother, Sherwood Morris of Free Union and Cecil
Morris of Batlimore, Md.; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be
conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Prize Hill Church by Reverend C.C. Kurtz. Burial will

Della Rea Haney, 84, of Charlottesville, died Friday, May 18, 2001, in a local
hospital. Born Jan. 27, 1917, in Greene County, she was a daughter of the late
Walker and Lethia Haney Breeden. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Jo
Elaine Powell, and by her husband, Elmer F. Haney. Mrs. Haney is survived by her
daughter, Juanita Geer, and son, Edwin F. Haney, both of Charlottesville; three
grandchildren, Pamela Cipriani, Patricia Phillips and Edwin F. Haney II; and one
great-granddaughter, Miranda Phillips, all of Charlottesville. A funeral service
for Mrs. Haney will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home
Chapel. Interment will be in Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive

EDIT FORTNER HANEY
Edith Fortner Haney, 78, of Charlottesville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26,
2005, in a local hospital. She was born on Feb. 18, 1927, in Clinton, Tenn.,
daughter of the late Limon and Ethel Nelson Fortner. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Randolph F. Haney; a brother, Limon E. Fortner, Jr.; and a
granddaughter, Sandra Long. Edith was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church where
she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a loving mother,
grandmother and doting great grandmother. We will miss her sweet spirit. She is
survived by two daughters, Patti Long, and her husband, Gary, of
Charlottesville, and Donna Rowland, and her husband, Louis, of Barboursville; a
brother, Edward Fortner, and his wife, Louise, of Richmond; a very close
step-sister, Betty Newlen; two grandchildren, Louis (Andy) Rowland, III, and his
fiancée, Kate Hay, and Kevin Rowland, and his wife, Amber; and by two great
grandchildren, Rheanna and Savanna Rowland; a sister-in-law, Anne Fortner; and a
number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral
service will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Monticello Memory
Gardens with Pastor Tracy Tucker, officiating. The family will receive friends

Edna Frances Haney, 74, of Gordonsville, died Friday, September 19, 2008, in the
University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was born January 5,
1934, in Albemarle County and was a daughter of the late Walter Gordon Cook and
Florence Beatrice Pace Cook. She was a member of the Ivy Creek United Methodist
Church, Charlottesville. Mrs. Haney is survived by her husband, George Donald
Haney of Gordonsville; two daughters, Diane Acree and her husband, Kenny, of
Lake Monticello and Donna Whittaker of Gordonsville; five sons, George Gilbert
Haney and his wife, Kris, of Spotsylvania, Steven Donald Haney and his wife,
Sandy, of Stanardsville, Walter Bryan Haney of Gordonsville, Gordon Scott Haney
and his wife, Vivian, of Louisa and Kenneth Wayne Haney and his wife, Lisa, of
Stafford; one brother, Bernard Cook and his wife, Bobbie, of Waynesboro; one
sister-in-law, Glenace Cook of Charlottesville; 13 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Cook. A memorial service will

Elizabeth Turner Haney, 90, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Martha Jefferson
Hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Greene County, she was the daughter of
the late Lynnwood and Viola Deane Turner. She was preceded in death by her
sisters, Lottie T. Breeden and Christine T. Haney; and brothers, Frank Turner
and Elmer Turner. She is survived by her husband, Elmo S. Haney; one daughter,
Mildred H. Sandridge and her husband, H. K. Sandridge Jr., of Charlottesville; a
granddaughter, Tracey S. Templeton; great-granddaughter; Blair E. Templeton;
sister; Earle T. Shifflett; and by a special friend, Susan Craddock. A funeral
service will be held at Ruckersville Baptist Church, where she was a member, on
Friday, July 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kyle Clements officiating.
Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Charlottesville. The family

Mrs. Ella Blanch of Orange died yesterday in a New Jersey hospital at the age of
81. She was born Oct. 31, 1885 in Greene County and was the widow of the late
Gaines Haney. Mrs. Haney is survived by four sons, Elmo Haney of Ruckersville
and Floyd Haney, Haywood Haney and Charles Haney of Orange; a brother W. B.
Shipplett of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Violet Beane of Salem, N.J.; ten
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m.
tomorrow at the Westover Methodist Church in Ruckersville, with burial in the

Elmo Sleet Haney, 94, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Winterhaven Assisted
Living, Charlottesville. He was born May 25, 1910, in Greene County, a son of
the late Gaines and Blanch Shiplet Haney. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Elizabeth Turner Haney; and his brothers, Albin, Floyd, Haywood and Charles
Haney. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mildred H. and H.K.
Sandridge Jr.; a granddaughter, Tracey S. Templeton; and a great-granddaughter,
Blair E. Templeton. Mr. Haney was a lifelong member of the Westover United
Methodist Church, a WWII veteran, having served in Europe, a retired building
and excavating contractor, a former member of the Virginia Small Business
Administration Region III Advisory Council, a founding member of Greene Hills
Club and was active in other local organizations. A funeral service will be held
at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Ruckersville Baptist Church, with the Rev.
Kyle Clements and the Rev. Norma Dean officiating. Interment will follow at

Ennis Davis Haney, 98, of Earld Farms, Ruckersville, died Friday, May 24, 2002,
at home. He was born Feb. 16, 1904, in Greene County, the son of the late George
A. and Haseltine Powell Haney. He was a retired employee of Sprint Telephone
Co., a member of the Piedmont Stella Masonic Lodge No. 50 for 69 years, the
Greene County Republican Committee, and Westover Methodist Church. He was
preceded in death by his wife of almost 65 years, Frances Deane Haney; three
brothers, Everette, Ovel, and George S. "Pete"; and one sister, Beulah H.
Garrison. He is survived by a son, George W. Haney of Ruckersville; two
daughters, Barbara D. Haney of Mechanicsville, and Betty H. Woodward and her
husband, Clement L. Woodward, of Richmond; a grandson, William Overton Woodward

Mrs. Florence Lea Haney of RFD 6, Stony Point Road, died yesterday after a short
illness. She was 76. Born May 6, 1891, in Greene County, she was the daughter of
the late Willie and Mary Jane Breeden Morris. She is survived by her husband,
Jerry Newt Haney; two brothers, Eugene Morris of Ruckersville and Ben Morris of
Lydia; five sons, J. Edward and Willie B. Haney of Keswick, J. Alvin and Melvin
Haney of Falls Church and Marvin C. Haney of Keswick; three daughters, Mrs.
Charlie Hall, Mrs. Ray Leake and Mrs. Frances Durham, all of Charlottesville;

George Edward "Ed" Haney, 79, of Free Union died Monday, Aug. 19, 1991, at his
residence. Born Dec. 31, 1911, in Albemarle County, he was a son of the late
George and Blanche Dickenson Haney. He was the widower of Charlotte M. Haney,
who died Nov. 16, 1990. Mr. Haney was a retired farmer and a member of Free

George Edward Haney Sr., 89, of Orange, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at
Culpeper Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 11, 1912, in Albemarle County, he was the
son of the late George Weeden Haney and the late Fannie Lou Deane Haney. Mr.
Haney was a member of the Barboursville United Methodist Church, a Navy veteran
of World War II, a member of American Legion Post No. 128, of Stanardsville, and
a retired employee of Virginia Metal Products of Orange. He is survived by his
wife Goldie Hensley Haney of Orange; two sons, George Edward Haney Jr. of Orange
and Ronald Rea Haney and wife, Joyce B. Haney, of Barboursville; two brothers,
J. Earl Haney of Stanardsville and Ray D. Haney of Fredericksburg; two sisters,
Edith H. Crute of Orange and Elizabeth H. Logeson of Monroe, Wis.; four
grandchildren, Kim Haney Buswell, Karen Haney Fralin, Kimberly D. Haney and
Cindy Haney Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Trey Gentry, Will Fralin, Clayton
Fralin and Dulany Fralin; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by two brothers, Lurt F. Haney and William J. Haney, and two sisters,

George E. Haney Jr., 63, of Orange, passed on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, after a
long illness with much strength and character, at Trinity Missions Nursing Home,
Charlottesville. Born July 23, 1939, in Albemarle County, he was the son of
Goldie Ruby Hensley Haney of Orange and the late George E. Haney Sr. He was an
entrepreneur in spirit that led to many sales endeavors. He was an avid
fisherman and hunter, with a passion for the outdoors. In addition to his
mother, he is survived by four daughters, Kimberly Wise Haney Buswell of
Charlottesville, Karen Richmond Haney Fralin and her husband, William, of
Roanoke, Kimberly Dawn Haney of Rhoadesville, and Cynthia Edina Haney Morgan and
her husband, Quentin, of Ruckersville; a brother, Ronald R. Haney and his wife,
Joyce Breeden Haney of Barboursville; and four grandchildren, Trey Gentry, Will

member of Knights Chapel in Barboursville. Mrs. Haney is survived by her
husband, Robert Edward "Bobby" Haney of Barboursville; four daughters, Bobbi
Lynn Childress and husband, William, of Barboursville, Kelly Pritchett of
Louisa, Teresa D. Woodson and husband, John, of Scottsville and Tracey L.

Herman Lee Haney Jr., 91, of Charlottesville joined the hands of his savior on
Tuesday, March 14, 2017, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Herman
was born on May 12, 1925, in Charlottesville, Va., the son of the late Herman
Lee Haney and Maggie Haney Garrison, also a brother to the late Rose Marie Lamb.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mable Shiflett Haney. He
served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, primarily stationed in the
Philippines, where he trained dogs to find land mines. He gained his love for
animals from his time in the service. After returning home, he became employed
by Barnes Lumber Co. or "the saw mill" as he called it, where he worked for over
40 years. Upon retiring, he also had a small lawn care business that he took
great pride in. Herman loved working in his garden, and taking care of a vast
amount of flowers for his wife. Mr. Haney also took great pride in his Christmas
decoration display, a tradition that he and his wife started over 30 years ago;
everyone in Charlottesville had to stop by and see "The Haney's Lights". Herman
was also an avid softball fan, of which he shared the same passion with his son,
Ricky Sr., whom he played beside. One of Herman's favorite past time also
included fishing ; he also loved and looked forward to a gentleman's bet between
himself and Henry having to do with the Cowboys and Redskins; in the end, they
were both even. Herman is survived by his four loving children, daughters, Linda
J. Haney and Cathy Shifflette and her husband, Henry; and sons, Ricky Haney and
his wife, Cathy and Dusty Haney and his wife, Amy, all of Charlottesville. He
enjoyed and loved his grandchildren, Kristen Snow and husband, Joseph, Justin
Shifflette and wife, Raquel, Kristina Haney, Michelle Haney and fiancé, Jeremy,
Kyle Haney and wife, Kelly, Taylor Haney and fiancé, Damian, Ashleigh Haney,
Scarlett Hamburg, and Jasmine Dolinger; a very special grandson, Ricky Haney
Jr., not only a grandson, but also his caregiver. Herman also leaves behind his
great-grandchildren, Jayden, Noah, and Nathaniel Shifflette, Levi and Ethan
Snow, Cody Roberts, Savannah and Brantley Haney. He will be deeply missed by
many, and never forgotten. Services will be held 2p.m.on Friday, March 17, 2017,
at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Hydraulic Rd. with
graveside service to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Charlottesville. Visitation

Hollis Norwood Haney, 87, of Ruckersville, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007,
at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Haney served his country as a
Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the City
of Charlottesville Maintenance Department as an electrician after 35 years. He
was born June 26, 1920, in Greene County, to the late De Marcus Lubin Haney and
Selina Deane Haney. Also preceding him in death was his stepdaughter, Virginia
Lewis; three grandchildren; four brothers; and five sisters. Hollis is survived
by his wife of 41 years, Helen E. Haney; two daughters, Wanda H. Shelton and her
friend, M.D. Mallory, and Lisa Tilley and her friend, Lonny; three stepchildren,
Brenda Powell and her husband, Bryant, Nona Jarrell and her husband, Ronnie, and
Wayne Marshall and his house mate, Sue Bunch; 10 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Smokey. Funeral service for Hollis
will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007, at the Ryan Funeral Home, with
the Reverend Wendell Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at the

James Earl Haney Sr., 89, of Stanardsville, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at his
home surrounded by his beloved family. Earl, as he was called, was born in
Barboursville, Va., on Dec. 15, 1915, son of the late George Weedon Haney and
Fannie Lou Dean Haney. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lizzie Johnson
Haney; three children, James E. Haney Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Williamsburg,
Nancy Haney Morris and her husband, Earl, of Stanardsville and Sara Dawn Haney,
of Stanardsville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by four brothers, Lurt, Billy, Ed and Ray Haney; and four
sisters, Clara Haney, Frances Yowell, Edith Crute and Elizabeth Logeson. Earl
was a US Army veteran of World War II. a dedicated employee of Columbia Gas
Company for 34 years, a member of the Stanardsville United Methodist Church, a
50 plus year member of the Greene County American Legion Post 128, one of the
founders of the Greene Hills Club, served on it's Board of Directors and held a
lifetime membership with the club. Earl enjoyed sports all of his life, he
participated in baseball and later in life he took up golf, which he enjoyed so
much. In his younger years, he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals in the
minor league. Those memories of that part of his life were always dear to his
heart. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. One of the most unselfish men in the world. He will be sorely
missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to express their
appreciation to the staff of Evergreen Nursing Home for their compassionate and

Jeffrey Wayne Haney, 48, of Charlottesville, died suddenly on Friday, January 4,

Jerry Maxie Haney, 71, of Barboursville, died Friday in a Richmond hospital.
Born April 10, 1911, in Greene Co., he was the son of the late Eddie Frank and

Construction. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Shifflett Haney; three

Joyce (Mundie) Haney, 86, of Charlottesville, passed peacefully at home with her
family by her side on Thursday, September 27, 2018. She was born on February 4,
1932, in Albemarle County, to the late John W. and Louise E. (Shifflett) Mundie.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Alvis C.
Haney; and brother, Herbert A. Mundie. Joyce is survived by her children,
Phyllis Poland, Marion (Joe) Scott, Judy Stratton, Avis Haney, John "JD" Haney,
Chris (Lynn) Haney, and Kathleen "Kaddy" (Jay) Davis; grandchildren, Leslee
(Conrhod) Zonio, Stacey (Travis) Morris, Sloan (Cameron) Hall, Amy and Nora
Stratton, Charles M. (Rachel) Haney, Charles D. Haney, Justin Haney, Chad
(Heather) Bingler, Chelsea (Phillip) Fitz, Jordan Davis, and Connor Davis, and
18 great-grandchildren. Joyce was a member of the First Christian Church, a
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and "Haney" to the hundreds of children that
she cared for throughout her 45 year career. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and
crafting and will always be remembered for her strength and love of children.
The family is thankful to the staff of Cornell 3 at Martha Jefferson Hospital
and Hospice of the Piedmont for their attentive care. Visitation will be held

JULIA JEAN SHIFFLET HANEY
Former Durango resident Julia Jean Shifflet Haney died at Aspen Gardens Assisted
Living in Cortez on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. She was 85. Mrs. Haney was born to
Coleman Robert and Mary Viola (Ault) Shifflet in Belvue, Kan., on Aug. 14, 1923.
She was one of 12 children. On Jan. 24, 1942, she married Ray B. Haney in Raton,
N.M. During their marriage, they lived in Pueblo, Farmington, Durango and
Cortez. While in Durango, the Haneys owned and operated Jean's Sewing Nook for
19 years. After living in Durango, they moved to Cortez to be closer to family.
Mrs. Haney was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her
family said she was a wonderful seamstress and made beautiful afghans. She
enjoyed crafts and gardening, raising beautiful flowers. Mrs. Haney is survived
by her husband of 66 years, Ray B. Haney, of Cortez; daughters Patti R. Plemens
of Cortez and Sharon J. Kitchel of Newcastle, Calif.; sisters Betty Hansen of
Kaysville, Utah, Donna Buys of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Janice Spinuzzi of
Pueblo; brothers Robert Shifflet and Richard Shifflet, both of Pueblo, and
Lowell Shifflet of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Ertel Memorial Chapel,
42 Market St. in Cortez. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m., also Friday at Ertel.
Burial will be held after at the Cortez Cemetery. Bishop Spencer Smith will

Kenneth Haney, 42, of Stafford County went to be with the Lord on Saturday,
December 6, 2008, as a result of a tragic hunting accident. He will be reunited

Lizzie Johnson Haney, 86, of Stanardsville, died suddenly at her home on
Thursday, February 16, 2006. Born in Somerset, Virginia on December 10, 1919,
daughter of the late Melvin Johnson and Margaret Mundy Johnson. She is survived
by her three children, James E. Haney Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Williamsburg,
Nancy Haney Morris and her husband, Earl and Sara Dawn Haney of Stanardsville;
six grandchildren, Heather, Holli, Keith, Dana, Dawn and Patrick; six
great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Noah, Evan, Paula-Gail and Savannah.
Lizzie joined her husband, Earl, the love of her life, just prior to their 65th
anniversary, in heaven. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion,
Melvin and Ashby Johnson; five sisters, Elsie and Edna Johnson, Virginia Ewald,
Anna Rennie and Ruby Purdum. Lizzie, as she was called, and Earl, were high
school sweethearts and were married on February 22, 1941. The only job she held
outside of the home was with the Greene County School System for 25 years as
Manager of the School Cafeteria. Mrs. Haney, as many children and teachers
called her is remembered for her hot rolls, peanut butter cookies and cinnamon
buns. She could always be found in the kitchen either at home, school or church.
Preparing food for others was something she enjoyed and continued to do her
entire life. Lizzie was a member of the Stanardsville United Methodist Church
and the Stanardsville United Methodist Women. She enjoyed watching her husband
play baseball and in later years the two enjoyed playing golf with each other
and friends at Greene Hills Club, where they were life members. She was a former
member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Greene County PTA. Some of her
favorite past times was reading, cooking and family get togethers. She was a
loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and
friend to all. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2006,
at the Stanardsville United Methodist Church with interment in the Stanardsville
Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Burgess and the Rev. Paul Davis will officiate. The

Marvin D. Haney, 93, of Palmyra passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at a local
nursing home. Marvin was born on July 19, 1914, in Greene County. He was the son

was preceded in death by a brother, Garvey Haney; one sister, Mabel Haney.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Knighting Haney; one daughter,

Mary Elizabeth Haney Hensley, 92, of Gordonsville, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002,
in the Orange County Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 12, 1909, in Greene County
and was the daughter of the late Eddie Frank Haney and Lucetta McDaniel Haney.
She was married to the late Whitelow Eugene "W.E." Hensley and was a member of

members and friends. Olivia was a member of Swift Run Baptist Church. She was a
homemaker who especially enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was a devoted wife,

ORA MAY HANEY HENSLEY
Ora May Haney Hensley, 92, of Old Gordonsville Road, Orange, Virginia, died July
1, 2006, at the Orange County Nursing Home. Born April 12, 1914, in Greene
County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Jackson Haney and
Sally James Dean Haney. She is also preceded in death by her husband, August Lee
Hensley; a daughter, Charlotte Hensley; a son, Floyd Haney; three sisters, Ruby
Virginia Haney Harvey, Lelia Haney Crawford and Alberta Haney Harlow. She is
survived by two daughters, June O'Dare Hensley Wolfrey of Orange, Virginia,
Loris Marie Hensley Sturgel of Scottsville, Virginia; one son, Arthur Lee
Hensley of Chesapeake, Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and
13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July
10, 2006, at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange, with interment to be held at
Maplewood Cemetery, Gordonsville, Virginia, with the Rev. Daryl Harbin

OTIS E. HANEY
Otis E. Haney, 84, of Ruckersville, died at his home Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005. Born
on Feb. 10, 1921, in Greene County, to the late Grattan and Carrie Haney. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Delmar Haney; and one sister,
Gladys Jarrell. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Marie D. Haney,
after 57 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter, Linda H. Dodd and
her husband, Wendell; two granddaughters, Kelsey Jill Dodd and Haley Blair Dodd,
all of Ruckersville. He has one surviving brother, Wyatt Haney and his wife,
Ruth, of Vienna, Va.; other family members include special nephews; Edward C.
Wojdylak and his wife, Faye, of Ruckersville; Curtis Deane and his wife, Jenny,
of Bartlesville, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and devoted family and
friends. He was employed by Sears for 25 years and enjoyed his retirement years
working on small engines, yard work, and being an avid follower of sporting
events with his grandchildren, and at the Ruckersville Youth Center. He was a
member of the Ruckersville Baptist Church. He was Chief of the Ruckersville Fire
Department for 28 years, and a charter member since 1948. He was a member of the
VFW. Otis was drafted into the United States Army in World War II. He wore the
patch of the "Old Hickory", the 30th Infantry Division and saw action beginning
with the D-Day Invasion and ending at the Elbe River. He was awarded the Bronze
Star in Germany. He was dearly loved by all of his family and close friends, and
touched many lives during his lifetime. He was a caring, loving and devoted
husband, father and grandfather. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m.,
Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the Ryan Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Holder
officiating. Interment will follow at the Ruckersville Cemetery. The family will
receive friends one hour prior to the service. Visitation is welcomed at other

PEARL RICHARDS HANEY
Pearl Richards Haney, 93, of Ruckersville passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2008
at a local hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Greene County on
January 23, 1914. Pearl was the daughter of the late Walter Lee Richards and
Susie Garton Richards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband of 66 years, Finks H. Haney; a daughter, Mildred M. Haney; one
sister, Hazel R. Shipp; and one brother, W. Whitelaw Richards. She is survived
by three daughters, Joyce Morris of Charlottesville, Virginia, Dot Herring and
her husband, Claude, Jeanette Harlow and her husband, Odell, all of
Ruckersville; one sister, Mildred Sparks; one brother, William Richards; four
grandchildren, Bonnie Craddock and her husband, Ronald, Dale Herring and his
wife, Sue, Anthony Herring and his wife, Stephanie, Janet Shiflett and her
husband, Jay; 10 great-grandchildren, Brian Craddock and his wife, Holli, Erin
Brown and her husband, Chris, Brad Craddock, Christian, Casey and Corey Herring,
Megan Herring, Travis Lamb, Wyatt and Jay II Shiflett; three
great-great-grandchildren, Madison and Grant Brown and Anna Craddock; many
nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Pearl was a lifelong member
of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, attending since she was an infant and
remaining active until her passing. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved
family friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12,
2008, at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Reverend David Knighton officiating.
Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends
from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008, at the Ryan Funeral Home. The

REGINALD L. HANEY
Reginald L. Haney, 71, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, January 4, 2007,
peacefully at his home. He was born August 18, 1935, in Nelson County, the son
of the late Eugene B. Haney and the late Dorothy Baber Haney. He retired after
38 and a half years of service with ConAgra as a semi driver and was employed
for seven years with McCann Delivery Service. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Timberlake, Peggy Philon and Kay
Belew; a brother, Howard Haney; and a son-in-law, Roger L. Shifflett Sr. He is
survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mildred W. Haney; a daughter, Barbara
Morris and her husband, Alvin "Butch"; three grandsons, Randy Shifflett and his
wife, Leah, Rodney Shifflett and his wife, Liz, and Roger Lee Shifflett Jr.; one
sister, Nancy Laster and her husband, William; one brother, Eugene Haney; and a
sister-in-law, Nancy Gibson and her husband, Luther. A graveside service will be
held 2 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Holly Memorial Gardens conducted by
Reverend Greg Compton. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m.

RICHARD CLYDE HANEY
Richard Clyde Haney, 60, of Kewick died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at his
residence. He was born September 14, 1947, in Albemarle County, a son of the
late Marvin Clyde Haney and is survived by his mother, Kathleen Shifflett
Wickline of Charlottesville. Mr. Haney was a manager with the Safeway Food
Stores where he was employed for 25 years and owner/operator of the Gordonsville
Emporium. Mr. Haney is also survived by his wife, Nancy Walker Haney of Keswick;
one daughter, Heather E. Crowley and her husband, Jeremy, of Keswick; one son,
Thomas R. Haney and companion, Caroline Woodson both of Keswick, three brothers,
John Haney of Keswick, Jeryl Haney of Gordonsville and Randall Haney of Palmyra;
one sister, Sheree Acosta of Richmond; and a grandchild, Samantha Haney and her
mother, Tonya Haney both of Gordonsville. A graveside funeral service will be
held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the Walker family cemetery in Thelma
officiated by the Reverend Carmon Hartsfield. The family will receive friends

RONALD THOMAS HANEY II
Ronald Thomas Haney II, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in Louisa,
Kentucky, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on June 3, 1972, in
Charlottesville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his maternal
grandparents, Albert and Virgie Morris, and Thomas Breeden. He is survived by
his loving wife, Wendy; daughter, Kristen; son, Tony; his parents, Ronnie and
Judy Haney of Earlysville; his mother, Judy Damron; his step -dad, James Damron
of Charlottesville; his paternal grandparents, George and Margaret Haney of
Charlottesville, whom both provided Ronnie with a lifetime of unconditional
love; his mother and father-in-law, Winifred and Judy Williamson of Inez,
Kentucky; half-sister, Jamie Damron; step-sister, Angie Taylor; step-brothers,
Kenny Jarrell and Scott Burton; five uncles, Gary Haney, Thomas Breeden, Mike
Powell, Donnie Patterson, and Willard Piondexter; six aunts, Janice Piondexter,
Brenda Powell, Cindy Patterson, Mary Lynn Haney, Jeanie Morris and Penny
Breeden; a special niece, Kristina Shaver; a special nephew, Randy Taylor; his
best friend of more than 20 years, Shawn Shifflett, whom he thought of as a
brother; and many dear cousins and friends. Ronnie made us all so proud! He took
great pride in being a wonderful husband, father, son, grandson and son-in-law.
Ronnie was the most loving, kind-hearted person you could ever meet. He was a
loyal and avid fan of University of Virginia sports, the Washington Redskins,
and the New York Yankees. He will be truely missed by everyone that knew him. A
memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Broadus
Memorial Church on Stony Point Road.

Ruby Goldie Hensley Haney, 89, of Orange, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the
Culpeper Health and Rehab Center. Born in Madison County October 22, 1917, she
was the daughter of the late Henry Sanford and Elizabeth Donald Hensley. She was
wife of the late George Edward Haney Sr. Mrs. Haney was also preceded in death
by a son, George Edward Haney Jr.; three brothers and five sisters. Survivors
include one son, Ronald Rea Haney and his wife, Joyce, of Barboursville; two
sisters, Mary Stephen and Cora Miller, both of Orange; four grandchildren, Kim
Haney Buswell, Karen Haney Fralin, Kimberly D. Haney, and Cindy Haney Morgan;
and five great -grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday,
November 4, 2006, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange, with interment to
follow at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper. Pastor Mort Robson and Pastor Richard
Griswold Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Preddy
Funeral Home Chapel from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2006. The family

TANDOLPH FRANKLIN HANEY
Randolph Franklin Haney, 81, of Charlottesville, died on Sunday, March 13, 2005,
at Castlewood. Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Barboursville, he was the son of the late
Arthur Jackson Haney and Sallie Deane Haney. He was also preceded in death by
two sisters, Lelia Crawford and Alberta Harlow; three brothers, James "Sam"
Haney, Floyd Haney and George Haney; and a granddaughter, Sandra Marie Long. Mr.
Haney served as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a prisoner
in Romania. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Moose, and a family person
who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He worked
for many years as a rural mail carrier with the U. S. Post Office. Surviving him
are his wife of 57 years, Edith Fortner Haney of Charlottesville; two daughters,
Patti Long and her husband, Gary, of Charlottesville, and Donna Rowland and her
husband, Louis, of Barboursville; three sisters, Ruby Harvey and Ilda Marrs,
both of Charlottesville, and Ora Hensley of Orange County; two grandchildren,
Louis "Andy" Rowland III and Kevin Rowland and his wife, Amber; two
great-grandchildren, Rheanna and Savanna Rowland; and numerous nieces and
nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to Sharon and Michelle
at Castlewood. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16,
2005, in Monticello Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Johnny Hartless officiating.

VIOLET HANEY STRAUSS
Violet Haney Strauss, 97, of Sunnyside Presbyterian, went to be with her Lord on
January 25, 2006. Violet was born in Greene County on April 26, 1909, daughter
of the late John L. Haney and Alice Deane Haney and the widow of the late Albert
James Strauss. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah
and a graduate of Jefferson Secretarial School in Charlottesville. Violet worked
in the stenography department at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., before
meeting her husband of 60 years, Albert James Strauss, a graduate of George
Washington University. Violet played many musical instruments and was an avid
golfer. Al and Vi lived most of their married life in Flemington, New Jersey and
retired to Harrisonburg to be close to family. Aunt Vi leaves behind numerous
nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her and she was always generous
and kind. She also leaves behind special friends Walter Walker and Gladda
Pierce. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christ United
Methodist, 501 Senior Avenue, Shenandoah, Virginia 22849. Graveside services,
officiated by Rev. Stephen Creech, will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens,

WILLIE BASIL HANEY
Willie Basil Haney, 76, of Charlottesville died Monday, Jan. 24, 2994, at the
University of Virginia Medical Center. Born in Greene County, he was a son of
the late Jerry Newton and Florence Lee Morris Haney. Mr. Haney was a retired
carpenter and was a World War II veteran having served in Italy in the 338th
infantry 85th Division. He received the Good Conduct medal, the American Theatre
ribbon, the European African and the World War II Victory ribbon. He is survived
by three sisters, Frances Durham of Charlottesville, Mary Leake and Pearl Hall
of Albemarle County; one brother, Alvin Haney of Charlottesville; 27 nieces and
nephews; and a very special great-nephew, Ferron Taylor Gervy of
Charlottesville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Melvin and
Marvin Haney. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Maple
Grove Cemetery, Proffit Road. Mr. Roger Browning will officiate. The family will
receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at Teague Funeral Home. Immediately
following the service on Friday, the family will receive friends at Maple Grove
Christian Church.
