ADA BELLE JOHNSON
JOHNSON, ADA BELL, 94, OF 404 s. Alabama Ave., died Thursday at the heartland
Nursing Home. Born April 18, 1890, in Rockingham County, Va., she was the
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Shifflett. She was a member of the Full
Gospel Church at Four Mile Woods. She was preceded in death by her husband, John
W. Johnson in 1940. Surviving are three sons, Owen Shifflett and William L.
Shifflett, both of Martinsburg and Robert L. Shifflett, Monticello, Ark.; three
daughters, Marie lam, Gladys VanMeter and Anna Lee Johnson, all of Martinsburg;
19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel with the rev.
Raymond E. Jones officiating. Burial in the Rosedale cemetery. Friends will be
received at the funeral home tonight. 7 – 9.

ALTIE LEE MORRIS JOHNSON
Altie Lee Morris Johnson, 81, of Gordonsville, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in the
Louisa Health Care Center. She was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Greene County, and was
a daughter of the late Francis Monroe Morris and Ludelia Morris. She was married
to the late William Lewis Johnson, and was a member of Knight's Chapel Church of
the Brethren in Barboursville. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Joyce
Moses of Charlottesville, and Mary Lou Munday and her husband, Arnold, of
Gordonsville; three sons, Donald Johnson and his wife, Mildred, of Ruckersville,
William "Bill" Johnson and his wife, Bertha, of Rochelle, and Michael Johnson
and his wife, Sue, of Gordonsville; and five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, conducted by Raymond Vogt. The
family will receive friends at their homes. Preddy Funeral Home of Gordonsville
is in charge of arrangements.
ALVIN EARL JOHNSON
Alvin Earl Johnson, 75, of Free Union, Virginia passed away peacefully at his
home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer on April 22, 2019.
Earl was born in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Leonard Johnson and Betty
Ulrich. Earl married Carole Johnson the love of his life and he was her "Rock."
The two were married in Dundalk, Maryland on March 27, 1964. While helping raise
three sons and working full time, Dad attended PVCC and obtained an Associates
Degree in Drafting and Design. He worked as a tool and dye machinist and later
worked at Micro Aire as a Quality Control Inspector for surgical instruments.
Dad eventually went on to work at National Optronics and then retired. Dad took
pride in his work and his family. Dad enjoyed hunting, taxidermy work, and his
biggest passion was farming. Dad was preceded in death by his parents; his
oldest son, Ryan Carl Johnson; and his brother, Arthur Johnson. Dad is survived
by his wife of 55 years, Carole Ann Johnson and their three sons, William
"Billy" Johnson (Teresa), Steven Johnson and Kenny Johnson (Tiffany); eight
grandchildren, Austin, Kelsey, Kirstie, Tristan, Tate, Alexis (Jonathan),
Gregory (Kiersten) and Dylan; sister, Sharon Glaeser of Baltimore, MD; brother,
David Johnson of Florida; sister-in-law, Karen Chisholm (David) and a host of
nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Campbell, Legacy
Hospice, and Dad's special nurses, Libby and Linnea. The family will receive
friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2019 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819

AMY MORRIS JOHNSON
Amy Michelle Morris Johnson, 25, of Charlottesville, died on Friday, Sept. 24,
2004, at a local hospital. Born Dec. 15, 1978, in Charlottesville, she was the
daughter of Ronald J. and Alice Fay Morris. She was preceded in death by her
grandfathers, Elvin Morris and James Coleman, and two brothers, Michael Wayne
Corbin and Jeffery Shawn Morris. Amy was a 1997 graduate of Western Albemarle
High School and was employed as a manager at McDonalds (Pantops) with ten years
service. She was also an avid Bingo player. In addition to her parents, she is
survived by her husband, William A. Johnson of Charlottesville; two sons,
William Ashby Johnson and Michael Allen Johnson; a sister, Nancy Corbin Dilla,
and her husband, Marvin, of Charlottesville; three brothers, Ronald Wayne Morris
of Charlottesville, Ray Wilson Corbin of Louisa, and Ricky Allen Corbin of
Charlottesville; her paternal grandmother, Millie S. Morris of Earlysville; her
maternal grandmother, Lucille Hartsook of Orange; her father-in-law and
mother-in-law, William A. and Patti Johnson of Tyro; a sister-in-law, Tonia
Lester, and her husband, Paul, of Stanardsville; two brothers-in-law, Rick Simms
of Urbana and Robert Johnson of Tyro; numerous nieces, nephews, and other
relatives; and a special co-worker, Betty Johnson of Charlottesville. A funeral
service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Hill & Wood
Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Moretz officiating. Interment will follow at the
Evergreen Cemetery, Dyke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home

CLARIS SHIFFLETT JOHNSON
Claris Shifflett Johnson, age 67, of Stanardsville, died Monday in a
Charlottesville hospital. Born October 24, 1916 in Greene County, daughter of
the late Doc and Ida Collier Shifflett. Her husband was the late Dewey Johnson.
She is survived by four sons; Howard Shifflett, Jr. of Charlottesville, Melvin
Shifflett of Stanardsville, Irvine and Wayne Shifflett, both of Ruckersville;
five grandchildren; Keith, Michael, Melissa, Cynthia and Donna Shifflett.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ryan Funeral Home in
Quinque, with interment at the Evergreen Cemetery at Dyke, the Rev. C. C. Kurtz

Ella Woodson Johnson, 93, of 6921 Burnt Mountain Road, died early Friday Morning
(Jan. 19, 1996) at University of Virginia medical Center in Charlottesville. She
was born Jan. 7, 1903, in Albemarle county, a daughter of Nathan and Mary
Terrell Woodson. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas Elmo
Johnson Sr.; and her first husband, William Austin Gibson; and 10 children.
Survivors include 5 sons, William Gibson of Crozet, Ed Gibson of Scottsville,
Robert Junior Gibson of Keene, and Thomas Elmo Johnson Jr. and Charles Johnson,
both of Staunton; three daughters, Cora Lee Fisher of Batesville, Ella Mae
Johnson of Nellysford and Agnes Shifflett of Staunton; as well as a number of
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A service will
be conducted at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter-Reynolds
Funeral Service by the rev. Whitney Critzer. Burial will follow in the Rockgate
cemetery in Crozet. Active pall bearers will be Johnny Jones, Robert Niday,
Johnny Jones Jr., Billy Gibson, Jerry Fisher Jr., Robert Kirk and Jason Kirk.

GERTRUDE ANN JOHNSON
NELLYSFORD -- Gertrude Ann Johnson, 54, "Gertie" of Sun Valley Acres, went to be
with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, as result of an automobile
accident. She was born March 14, 1953, in Albemarle County, daughter of the late
Henry H. and Marie Morris Thacker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by a brother, Gary Wayne Thacker. Gertie was a member of the Piney
Mountain Bible Church. She worked at the Ivy Nursery for most of her life where
she loved her job and considered her co-workers as part of her extended family.
Gertrude had a heart of gold, putting everyone first before herself and was
always the first one there when you needed a helping hand. She leaves behind the
love of her life her husband of 37 years, Cecil Bernard Johnson Sr.; one son,
Cecil Bernard Johnson Jr. and his wife, Brenda Lee of Charlottesville; one
daughter, Tracy Lynn Adkins and her husband, Steven, of Afton. She will be sadly
missed but never forgotten by her three grandchildren who were very special to
her, Crystal "Ms Boots" Johnson, Bryce "Cookie Man' Adkins and Nikki "Nu Nu"
Adkins; four sisters, Sarah Jackson and her husband, David, of Blemo Bluff, Mary
Jimenez and her husband, Harvey, of Charlottesville, Mildred Shifflett and her
husband, Eddie, of Charlottesville and Doris Foglio of Scottsville; one brother,
Roger Thacker and his wife Judy of Charlottesville; two half sisters, Pam Bowles
and Angela Felton of Fork Union; one half brother, Shannon Thacker of Bremo
Bluff. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews whom she helped to
raise. Gertie also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Jean
Johnson and Frankie and Linda Johnson and a very special close friend, Betty
Sanford of Afton. A service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007,

HAROLD O. JOHNSON
Harold O. Johnson, 82, of West Caln, died at home Sunday, March 16, 2008.He was
the husband of Florence Skiles Johnson, with whom he shared 57 years of
marriage. Born in Martinsburg, W. Va., he was the son of the late Elmer F. and
Mamie Shifflett Johnson. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. An
area resident most of his life, he was employed by the Columbia Gas Transmission
Corp. of Downingtown, retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service. He was an
active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Compass, where he was a former
member of the vestry. Through the years, he enjoyed coaching baseball for the
Chester County Midget League, the Senior Babe Ruth League and the Parkesburg,
Coatesville and Caln American Legion teams. He umpired for the Midget League and
had fun playing baseball well into his 60s with a 50-and-over league. He was
also an avid Phillies fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five
children, Joanne, wife of Mark Cipollini, of Malvern, Suellen Johnson and
husband, Jay Tract, of Fleetwood, Helen J. Esbenshade of West Chester, Nelson
Johnson and wife, Sue Steczak Johnson of Denver, Pa. and Carole F. Johnson and
husband, Harold Green, of Lincoln University; two sisters, Hilda Baldwin of
Coatesville and Hattie Kaznowsky of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, at St. John's Episcopal Church,
Gap. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. Arrangements by the Wilde

O. Maud Johnson, 81, of Charlottesville died Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at a
local hospital. She was born April 8, 1914, in Greene County, daughter of the
late Sewell Collier and Lucy Mae Shifflett Collier. She was the wife of the late
Otis M. Johnson Sr. and was also preceded in death by a brother Leonard Collier;
and two sisters, Gladys Collier and Lucille Collier. Mrs. Johnson was a mother
and homemaker. She was a devoted member of Mount View Baptist Church where she
sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Dorcas class.
Surviving are her son, Otis M. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Sandra M. Johnson, of
Charlottesville and Sebring, Fla.; three brothers, Russell R. Collier and his
wife, Roberta, of Unionville, Lloyd Collier and his wife, Gladys, of
Charlottesville and Elijah Collier and his wife, Margaret, of Crozet; four
sisters, Margaret Jenkins of Charlottesville, Virginia Stoneberger of Front
Royal, Leona Woodson of Louisa and Ethel Bache of Culpeper; two grandchildren,
O. Michael Johnson and his wife, Carolyn, of Staunton and Jennifer R. Johnson of
Charlottesville; two step-grandchildren, Cindy M. McVey and her husband, Mark,

McCONNELSVILLE -- Phillip Clark Johnson, 78, of 125 Johnson Lane,
McConnelsville, died at 12:14 a.m. Friday (Oct. 14, 2005) at Genesis Good
Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in McConnelsville.
Mr. Johnson graduated in 1944 from M&M High School and attended Rose-Poly
Technical Institute in Terre Haute, Ind. He retired after 39 years at Malta
Manufacturing/Phillips Industries. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a
50-year member of Corinthian Lodge 111 F&AM, McConnelsville. He is survived by
his wife of 54 years, Masel McKown Johnson; sons, Robert (Mary Ellen) Phillip
Johnson of Bremen, and David (Laura) Andrew Johnson of Beverly; daughter,
Margaret (Philip) Ann Shiflett of Marietta; grandsons, Matthew R. Clawson of
Arlington, Wash., Eric P. Johnson of Kent, Brian P. Johnson of Los Angeles,
Calif., Kevin C. Johnson of Houston, Texas, Jacob A. Johnson of Beverly, and
Jack R. Johnson of Beverly; granddaughter, Josie R. Johnson of Beverly; six
sisters, Mary Ray of McConnelsville, Glenna Hivnor of Malta, Ruth Ann Tolbert of
McConnelsville, Kay Shuster of Reinersville, Susie Shuster of Caldwell, and
Linda Horner of Stockport; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Phillip Johnson and Ruth Clark
Johnson; two sisters, Betty Hasom and Judy Propst; and three brothers, George

at 10:30 a.m. today at Miller-Huck Funeral Home, McConnelsville, with Justin

RICHARD LEE JOHNSON
Richard Lee Johnson, 72, of Rockingham Pike in Elkton, died on Thursday, Jan.
18, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1934, in
Elkton, and was the son of the late Alfred Franklin and Rettie Herring Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a lifetime resident of this area except for the two years he
served in the U.S. Army. He was an active member of the Blue Ridge Independent
Church and retired from Reynolds Metal Company in 1997. Richard loved to hunt
and enjoyed all sports including football. On Dec. 16, 1956, he married Mary
Anna Rion, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary Richard Johnson and
Jeffrey Lee Johnson and wife, Melissa Shifflett Johnson, all of Elkton; and a
number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m.
Monday at the Blue Ridge Independent Church in Elkton by the Revs. Brad Lewis
and Gerald Meeks. Burial will follow in Elk Run Cemetery. The family will
receive friends Sunday from 7-8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton or
anytime at the family home. Memorial donations may be made to the Elkton
Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 152, or the Elkton Fire Department, P.O. Box 91, both

ROBERT R. JOHNSON
Robert R. Johnson, born October 9, 1929, passed away on March 24, 2004. Mr.
Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Roy W. Johnson and Ruth Crane, son
Bobby Johnson, and sister, Lois (Tom) Ciocca. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn
Johnson, and his daughter, Linda (Jack) Crawford, brothers-in-law, Gary
(Shirley) Shiflett, Kenneth Shiflett, Charles Shiflett, sister-in-law, Sharon
Bastian, numerous nieces and nephews, and his cat, Paws. “Johnson” owned and
operated Harold's Club and Johnson Motel in Tulare, Calif. for many years. He
and JoAnn moved to Pueblo in 1983, where he worked in the construction business.
He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, and enjoyed trips to Cripple Creek
and watching the Denver Broncos. Johnson was a gifted mechanic and a very
creative, ingenious individual. The song, “I did it my way” could have been
written for him. He will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. At
his request, cremation and no services. The family respectfully requests, in

William Lewis Johnson, 72, of Gordonsville died Tuesday, March 30, 1993, in
Heritage Hall in Charlottesville. He was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Albemarle County,
the son of Nancy Lee Hawley of Charlottesville and the late Herbert L. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church. In addition to his
mother, he is survived by his wife, Altie M. Johnson of Gordonsville; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Arnold Mundy of Gordonsville, Joyce Lee
and Raymond Moses of Charlottesville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald
Wayne and Mildred Johnson of Ruckersville, William Alvin "Bill" and Bertha
Johnson of Rochelle, Michael Earl "Mike" and Sue Johnson of Gordonsville; and
one brother, Joseph A. Johnson of California; two sisters, Martha Ann Johnson

Funeral Home in Gordonsville with interment in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Bob
