AGNES FRAZIER MONGER
Agnes F. Monger, 81, of Charlottesville, formerly of Free Union, Va., died
Monday, June 12, 1995. She was born November 30, 1913, to the late Sarah B. and
Miley F. Frazier. Survivors include her sons, Claude Monger and his wife Carolyn
of Free Union, Ted Monger and his wife Vivian of Falling Waters, West Virginia;
three daughters, Aleene Frazier and her husband Ben of Charlottesville, Shirley
Monger of Charlottesville, June Allen of North Garden; two sisters, Katherine
Stevens and Virginia Moore of Charlottesville; one sister-in-law, Lonnie Frazier
of Cobham; one son-in-law, John Allen of Scottsville, Va.; fourteen
grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents
Mrs. Monger was preceded in death by her husband Willie E. Monger, three sisters
and six brothers. A funeral service will be held at Free Union Baptist Church on
Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Jarman and the Rev. Herbert
Parker officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8 at the
funeral Home. Interment will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
Special love and appreciation is expressed to her sisters Katherine and Virginia
who cared for her during her illness. Teague Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

CARROLL EDWARD MONGER
Carrol Edward "Bootie" Monger, 63, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Tuesday,
Aug. 1, 2006. Mr. Monger was born March 18, 1943, in Rockingham County, and was
a son of the late Benjamin Kelley Monger and Vergie Emily Wyant Monger. He was a
supervisor for the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Karin M. Monger; a
son, Christian Monger, both of Colorado Springs; three sisters, Lois Senger of
Harrisonburg, and Odessa Shifflett and JoAnn Lam, both of Elkton; and a brother,
Harold Monger of Elkton. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at
Advantage Chapel of Memories, 829 S. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, Colo.,
where visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Evergreen
Cemetery.

CHARLES E. MONGER
STANARDSVILLE – Charles E. Monger of Stanardsville died this morning at the
University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville. He was 93. He was born May
15, 1867, son of the late Henry and Julia Monger of Rockingham County. His wife
is deceased. He is survived by two sons, John H. Monger and Thomas J. Monger,
both of Stanardsville; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Nichols of Baltimore, Md.; one
brother, Warren E. Monger of Elkton; one sister, Mrs. Lou Ella Lawson of Swift
Run; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at
Elk Run Cemetery at Elkton.

ELLA MAE MORRIS MONGER
Monger, Ella Mae Morris, daughter of Gaines and Icey (Shifflett) Morris, was
born in Rockingham Co., Va., Feb. 13, 1927; died of cancer at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va., Dec. 2, 1986; aged 59 y. On Feb. 9, 1953,
she was married to Thomas Monger, who died on Oct. 3, 1970. Surviving are 2
children (Carolyn McDaniels and Thomas, Jr.), 7 grandchildren, 5
stepgrandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, one brother, and one sister. She
was a member of Elkton Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on
Dec. 4, in charge of Norman Kauffman; interment in Lawson family cemetery.

EVELYN MONGER HELQUIST
Mrs. Evelyn Monger Helquist, 58, of Mt. Crawford died Friday night at Grace
Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Helquist had not been well since September and had
been in the hospital two weeks. She was a daughter of the late Edgar and Sallie
Shipplett Monger and was born Dec. 9, 1908 at Mt. Crawford. She had spent the
majority of her life there. More recently she had lived in Richmond and was
employed at the Bon-Air School for Girls She was a member of the Trinity United
Church of Christ at Mt. Crawford. Surviving are two children, Mrs. Betty H.
Hollen of Bridgewater and Edwin M. Helquist of Richmond; three grandchildren; a
sister, Mrs. Nora Johnson of Mt. Crawford, and two brothers, Russell Monger of
Mt. Crawford and Harry Monger of Philadelphia. Her husband, Edwin Helquist, died
in July, 1941. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at the Lindsey
Harrisonburg Funeral Home by the Rev. Herbert Myers. Burial will be in Mt.
Crawford Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where relatives will meet at
1:45 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Earl C. and Frank B. Wise, I. L. Smith

Gray Veteran, Dies
Harrisonburg, Va., Feb. 14 (Spl.) Harry R. Monger, 90, Confederate veteran, was
buried today in the family burial plot on the mountainside in Swift Run Gap. He
died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. David Lawson. He is survived by
seven children; Mrs. Lawson; Charles E., Stanardsville; Warren W., Elkton: Mrs.
Cordelia Williams, Swift Run: Edgar C., Mount Crawford; Mrs. Lillie F. Powell,
Stony Point, and Thomas B., Stokesville. NOTE: Harry was married to

HELEN I. MONGER
Helen I. Monger, 68, of 595 Elmwood Drive, Harrisonburg, was dead on arrival at
Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg on Aug. 17, 1991. She had been ill
since July. Mrs. Monger was born Dec. 3, 1922, at Keezletown and was a daughter
of the late Wade end Ruth Shifflett Huffman. She attended elementary school in
Keezletown and graduated from Keezletown High School. Mrs. Monger was a member
of Asbury United Methodist Church and a former member of the Rockingham Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary. She also had lived in Texas. On May 11, 1942, she married
William K Monger, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Sandra Monger
Shifflett and Sunni Jean Monger, both of Harrisonburg, Susan Monger Shifflett of
Bridgewater and Shirley Monger Beale of Newport News; one brother, Warren J.
Huffman of Harrisonburg and five grandchildren. Dr. Donald H. Traylor and the
Rev. M. Davies Kirkland will conduct the funeral at 11 am. Tuesday at Asbury
United Methodist Church. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends

IRENE HARRIET HENSLEY MONGER
Irene Harriet Hensley Monger, 90, of 580 Hermon Road, Elkton, went to be with
her Lord on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at her home. She was born Sept. 20, 1914,
near Elkton, and was the daughter of William Kelley and Annie May Hensley (both
deceased). Irene was a member of the Church of Solsburg, where she served as
pianist, music director, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and served on
the Missionary Committee. She was faithful to all the meetings of the Church
until her hospitalization on Oct. 7, 2004. On June 3, 1939, she was united in
marriage to Lloyd Whitney Monger, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1983. She
was a homemaker and spent her entire life in the Elkton area. Irene is survived
by three sons, Lloyd Whitney Monger Jr. and wife, Billie Jo, Gary Paige Monger
Sr. and wife, Bobbie Rae, Roger Lee Monger and wife, Barbara; 13 grandchildren,
Whitney Leeson, Alesia Talbot, Kathryn Monger, Sarah Hicks, Gary Monger, Kevin
Monger, Rebecca Grefe, Janie Patterson, Dixie Monger Tanner, Mary Louise
Hansbrough, Jimmy Monger, Bryan Monger, and Eve Monger; 14 great-grandchildren
and a number of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her two
brothers, Reese and Ras Hensley. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday,
Nov. 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Solsburg by the Rev. Robert Aszbach
and the Rev. Morgan Kinney. Burial will follow in Elk Run Cemetery. The family
will receive friends at the viewing on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, from 7-8 p.m. at

JEROLINE ALVERDIA MORRIS
MONGER
Jeroline "Jerry" Alverdia Morris Monger, 78, a lifelong resident of Elkton, went
home to the Lord on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Journey's Crossing in Elkton. She
was born Aug. 26, 1942, the youngest of seven children to the late Lewis Art and
Alverdia Morris. Jerry graduated from Elkton High School in 1961. She was a
member of Bethel United Church of Christ where she served as a Sunday School
teacher and helped with countless programs, Bible Schools and other activities
over the years. She was a life member and officer of the Jr. Order of United
American Mechanics, Lodge No. 149, Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer
in the early years with EAUS. In addition to being a homemaker, Jerry also
worked at Dean Lumber Company in the paint department. She was a loyal
caregiver, showing God's love and grace to her family her entire life. She
enjoyed cooking dinner for her family and did so most evenings making the best
sweet tea and lemonade. She loved vacationing with family to the beach and
camping on the Skyline Drive and always made vacations an adventure of a
lifetime. On April 28, 1962, she married the love of her life, Gerald Karl
Monger, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2013. Jerry is survived by two
daughters, Tracey Monger Breeden and husband, Tony, and Amy Monger, all of
Elkton; three grandchildren, Jennifer Stroop and husband, Aaron, and Cody Monger
and wife, Kara, of McGaheysville and Jessica Moubray and companion, Daniel
Beasley, of Elkton; stepgranddaughter, Lori Taylor and husband, Dustin, of Port
Republic; and six great-grandchildren, Karleigh and Reese Stroop, River and
Ridge Monger and Kaylee and Reagan Taylor. She is also survived by a number of
favorite nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was
preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nathan Wayne Moubray and Christopher
Luke Jerrells; brothers and sisters, Owen Morris, Lynwood Morris, Jennings
Morris, Lucille Shifflett and husband, Norris, Arnold Morris and wife, Lois, and
Marguerite Dean and husband, Randall. Pastor Dan Bassett will conduct a
graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Elk Run Cemetery followed by a Celebration of
Life Service at noon on Friday, May 7, at Bethel United Church of Christ in
Elkton. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at

LERA VIOLET SHIFFLETT MONGER
The Rev. Lera Violet Shifflett Monger, 87, went to be with her Lord on July 16,
1998, at the home of her daughter, J. Lucille Collier. The last of nine
siblings, she was born in Greene County Jan. 8, 1911, the daughter of the late
William Smith Shifflett and Lou Mittie Morris Shifflett. Her husband was the
late William Claude Monger, who passed away Jan. 5, 1979. She leaves to mourn
her passing a family who loves her very much; a daughter, Joyce Lucille Collier
of Barboursville; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Monger of Barboursville; two
grandsons, Donnie McDaniel of Charlottesville and William Andrew Monger, Jr.
(Drew) of Stanardsville; three step-grandsons, Robert Collier and his wife, Sue,
of Maryland, Eric Payne and his wife Kim, and Bud Payne; four
step-granddaughters, Debbie Nice and her husband, Mike, of Maryland, Linda

the Barboursville Pentecostal Church on Saturday, July 18, The Rev. Charles

Funeral services for Letha Elizabeth Dean Monger, 78, of Elkton, will be held

Mary Alma Monger, 93, of Elkton, passed away, Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Sentara
RMH Medical Center. Mary was born October 14, 1923 in Rockingham County and was
the daughter of the late, Zachariah and Maggie Knight McDaniel. In addition to
her parents she was preceded in death by, her husband, Ottie S. Monger; a son,
Allan Paul Monger and numerous siblings. Mary worked at Blue Bell and Casey
Jones as a seamstress for many years before retirement. She attended school in
Rockingham County at Swift Run, and was a member of the Price Rotary Rhythm
band, Blue Ridge Ladies in Action, Elkton Senior Citizens, and the Blue Ridge
Independent Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed doing puzzles and
going to McDonalds to visit with friends. She is survived by, her son, Ronald
(Ronnie) Ottie Monger and wife, Pauline (Polly) of Elkton; brother, George
McDaniel; grandchildren, Pamela F. Monger & husband, Mark, Lindsey Monger &
companion, Phineas Strothers; step grandchildren; Joanna Randall & husband,
Jamie, Kay Hensley; step-great grandchildren, Justin, Jenna, Jada, Julia and
Jude Randall; great-grandson, Jordan Lilly & wife, Jill; great-great

Ray William Wayne Monger, 71, of Elkton, passed away
October 13, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Monger was born
September 15, 1941, near Elkton, and was a son of the late Floyd Weaver and
Virginia Alger Monger. Ray grew up in Elkton, was a member of Bethel United
Church of Christ, and attended the Mount Zion United Methodist Church for more
than 50 years. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War,
and retired from Merck & Co., where he worked for 29 years. He was a member of
the McGaheysville Volunteer Fire Company. On June 10, 1964, he married, Vivian
Magalis Monger, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Neil Monger and wife,
Carla, of Elkton and Mark Monger and wife, Pam, of McGaheysville; a daughter,
Rhonda Long and husband, Chip, of Penn Laird; brothers, Gerald Monger and wife,
Jerry, and Phillip Monger and wife, Mary Jane, all of Elkton, and Larry Monger
and wife, Judy, of Harrisonburg; sisters, Loyce Hensley, Janet Secrist and
husband, Eddie, all of Elkton, Linda Monger of McGaheysville, Wanda (Susie)
Knicely and husband, Charlie, of Dayton, Debbie Correa and husband, Joe, of
Weyers Cave and Vivian Michael and husband, Donnie, Madison; grandchildren, Cori

MOUNT CRAWFORD - Russel E. Monger, 71, of 212 N. Main St., Mount Crawford died
Thursday night at Salem Veteran's Hospital, where he had been a patient since
June 23. Mr. Monger was born Sept. 25, 1911, at Mount Crawford and was a son of
the late Edgar Clinton and Sallie Shipplett Monger. He retired from City Cab Co.
in 1976 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Trinity New
Covenant Church at Mount Crawford. Mr. Monger served in the Army during World
War II. On Nov. 7, 1945, he married the former Minnie Belle Meyerhoeffer, who
survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Brenda M. Chandler of Grottoes; a
brother, Harry E. Monger of Philadelphia; a sister, Nora Johnson of Mount
Crawford; and two grandchildren, The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at
the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Patrick J, Bopp. Burial will be in
Mount Crawford Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at

SHIRLEY MAE MONGER
Shirley Mae Monger went to be with her Heavenly Father and earthly mother and
father on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005. Born July 19, 1939 in Albemarle County, Va.,
she was the daughter of the late Willie E. Monger and Agnes Frazier Monger. She
is survived by two sisters, Aleene Frazier, and her husband, Ben, of
Charlottesville, Va., and June Allen of Scottsville, Va.; two brothers, Claude
Monger, and his wife, Carolyn, of Free Union, Va., and Ted A. Monger, and his
wife, Vivian, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two aunts, Katherine Stevens of
Charlottesville, and Lonnie Frazier of Keswick; many nieces, nephews, and other
extended family members; and a special friend, Laura Sprouse. Shirley was a very
special person, and made many friends with the clients and staff of Region Ten,
who provided her daily support. She resided at the Carlton Avenue Region Ten
home, and will be missed by the other residents and staff. The family will
receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Teague Funeral Home.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Free Union
Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Campbell officiating. Interment will
immediately follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Free Union. The family would
like to send a special thanks to each of the staff members of Region Ten, who
patiently and diligently cared for Shirley's needs and wishes. Flowers are

TED ALLEN MONGER
Ted Allen Monger, 59, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, went to Heaven on
Monday, October 8, 2007. He was born February 8, 1948, the son of the late
Willie E. and Agnes F. Monger of Free Union. Left to cherish his memory is a
son, Ted Allen Monger II and his fiance', Chun-yan Mi, of Falling Waters; one
brother, Claude Monger and his wife, Carolyn, of Free Union; two sisters, Aleene
Frazier and her husband, Ben, of Charlottesville, and June Allen of Scottsville;
his ex-wife, Vivian Monger of Falling Waters, West Virginia; two aunts,
Katherine Stevens of Charlottesville and Lonnie Frazier of Idaho. Also surviving
are many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister,
Shirley Mae Monger. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October
13, 2007, at Lake Road Church of God on Albemarle Lake Road with Pastor Brian
Cadle leading the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the
Piedmont, 2200 Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

WILLIAM A. MONGER
William Andrew "Bill" Monger, 67, of Barboursville, died Saturday, Sept. 27,
1997, at his residence. He was born June 19, 1930, in Charlottesville and was
the son of the late Claude Monger and Lera Shifflett Monger, who lives in
Barboursvile. Mr. Monger is also survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Monger of
Barboursville; two daughters, Vicki Marvin of Barboursville and Sandra Dodson of
Bealeton; three sons, Eric Payne of Spotsylvania, Bud Payne of Alexandria and
Drew Monger of Stanardsville; one sister, Lucille Collier of Barboursville; 12
grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Preddy Funeral Home
Chapel in Gordonsville with interment in the Barboursville Pentecostal Church in
Barboursville. Brother Charles Shepherd and Brother Ronald Sipe will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral
home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1290
Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, Va. 22901. Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville is
in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM C. MONGER
BARBOURSVILLE - The Rev. William Claude Monger, 79, of Barboursville died Friday
at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1908, in Rockingham County, son of the late
Tom and Virgie Lamb Monger. He was a retired minister and a member of the
Pentecostal Church of Barboursville. He was a church worker for 42 years, built
five churches and established a campground. Survivors include his widow, Lera V.
Monger, a son, William A. Monger of Barboursville; a daughter, Lucille Collier
of Barboursville, a half-brother, Tom Monger, Jr. and a half-sister, Lois
Monger, both of Elkton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral
will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Barboursville Pentecostal Church, conducted by the
Rev. Charles Shepheard, with burial in the church cemetery. Family will be at
Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville from 7-8 p.m. Sunday.
