ELKTON - Bernard Walter Moubray, 70, died Monday in West Point Manor
Nursing Home in Richmond, where he had been a patient since last November. He
was a farmer and a lumberman in the Elkton area until retiring. Mr. Moubray was
born Feb. 19, 1901 in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Sebastian and
Josephine Moms Moubray. His wife the former Lizzie Anna Shifflett died in l956.
Surviving are six daughters. Mrs. Elizabeth Comer of Elkton. Mrs. Mary Shifflett
and Mrs. Eva Morris, both of Stanardsville, We, Mrs. Frances Sims of
Ruckersville, Mrs. Faye Cason of Charlottesville and Mrs. Lena Mae Shifflett of
Richmond; five sons, Willard S. Moubray of Elkton, William H. Moubray of
Shenandoah, Frank W. Moubray of Ruckersville, Leonard Moubray of Richmond and
Vernon S. Moubray stationed in Gulf Port, Miss., 33 grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday in
Elk Run Cemetery by the Rev. Ralph Richardson. The body is at the Brill Funeral
Home.

MOUBRAY
Dorothy "Dot" Lee Moubray, 87, of Orange, was granted her golden
wings on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Beloved daughter of the late Walter and
Dora Rogers she is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Robert Lee
Moubray; a sister, Ethel Jarrell; and a great-great-grandson. She is survived by
three daughters, Joyce Davis and Paul of Orange, Wanda Penton of Orange, Janet
Lewis and Gene of Madison; a brother, Walter Rogers; seven grandchildren, eleven
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Dot attended North
Pamunkey Baptist Church and spread her joy and sweet smile throughout her
community to include working at Woodberry Forest School and A&P and Super Fresh
Grocery Store. Dot loved her family above all and retired early to enjoy time
with them. She was truly a blessing to everyone she met and was loved by all. A
funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 11 a.m. from Preddy
Funeral Home Chapel in Orange, with burial in Graham Cemetery. Pastor Tim
Jarrell will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the
funeral service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the

Emma Frances Moubray, 93, of Orange, formerly of Gordonsville, died Saturday,
Jan. 7, 2006, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. She was
born Oct. 18, 1912, in Greene County and was a daughter of the late James Lewis
Moubray and Myrtle Crawford Moubray. She was married to the late, Charlie Newton
Moubray and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greene County.
Mrs. Moubray is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Boardman and her husband,
Gerald, of Gordonsville; two sons, Delma Moubray and his wife, Audrey, of Orange
and Charles "Wilson" Moubray and his wife, Rosamond, of Gordonsville;
son-in-law, Kenneth Hahn, of Orange; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four
brothers; Kays Moubray, Eugene Moubray, Cary Moubray, and Floyd Moubray; and
four sisters, Mary Jane Brookman, Rena Crawford, Minnie Fincham and Madie
Brookman. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at
the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, in Gordonsville, with interment in Maplewood
Cemetery. The Rev. Carmon Hartsfield will officiate. The family will receive

Emma
Lucille Dodson, 88, of Orange passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the
Dogwood Village. Born on November 25, 1928, in Orange County, she was the
daughter of the late Kays and Annie Lee Moubray. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, Clement Leonard Dodson Sr.; brothers, Luther, Walter, Jim, and
Lewis Moubray; sisters, Helen M. Richardson, Marie M. Thomas, and Virginia
Richardson; and a granddaughter, Amanda M. Stafford. Mrs. Dodson was a member of
Blue Run Baptist Church in Somerset. She is survived by a daughter, Donna D.
Knighton and husband, David of Orange; son, Clement Leonard "Sonny" Dodson Jr.
and wife Sharon of Radford, brother; Kays "Jr." Moubray and wife, Thelma of
Madison; sisters, Mildred M. Dowell of Orange and Violet Collier of Greene
County; grandson, Tyler A. Dodson and wife, Tess of Louisa; grandson in law,
Justin Stafford of Lynchburg; and two great grandchildren, Levi Stafford and
Grant Dodson. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2017,in
the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange. Pastor Barry Higgins and Pastor James Waldrop
will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. at the

GEORGE VALENTINE MOUBRAY
George Valentine Moubray, of Richmond and formerly of Orange County, died
Monday, July 9, 2001, at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond. He was born Feb.
14, 1918, in Orange County, son of the late George and Sadie Moubray. Mr.
Moubray served in World War II in the Army Infantry Division, and was a retired
heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He was married to the late Nora
Elizabeth Moubray. Mr. Moubray is survived by one daughter, Shirley Jean Rouse
of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Cheryl Hattorf of Montpelier, Frankie
"Cookie" Armstrong of Ashland, and William Rouse of Fredericksburg; and four
great-grandchildren, Sara and Travis Hattorf, and Amy and Taylor Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel
in Gordonsville, with interment in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery in Rapidan. The
Rev. Carmon Hartsfield will conduct the service. Pallbearers will be Wayne
Morris, Richard Isabell, Otis Brookman, Perry Hattorf, David Armstrong and
Wilson Moubray. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the

DEATH OF J. F. MOUBRAY
J. Frank Moubray, aged 51 years, died yesterday afternoon about 2:00 o'clock, at
his home on South Main Street, Following a three day's illness from pneumonia.
For the past several years, Mr. Moubray had been employed as machinist at the
Wise Brothers Shoe Factory. Surviving are: his wife who was Miss Minnie
Shifflett; two sons, Theodore and Kingsley; four brothers L. O. of Hinton; S. L.
of Brooklyn, Iowa; Paul F., and Gloss H., both of Harrisonburg; two sisters,
Mrs. Floyd Bowman of Bristow and Mrs. Frank Dove, of Harrisonburg. Funeral
services will be conducted from the Donovan Memorial U. B. Church, Singers Glen.
Saturday morning, at 11:00 o'clock, by his pastor, Dr. W. F. Gruver, assisted by
Rev. G. B. Fadley and Rev. V. H. Persons. Interment will be in the Singers Glen
Cemetery. Burial services will be in charge of the Loyal Order of Moose.

John Lewis Moubray, 83,
passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the University of Virginia Medical
Center.He was born on March 11, 1932 in Orange, Va. Preceding him in death were
his parents, Kays Moubray and Annie Mawyer Moubray; brothers, Luther Moubray,
Walter Moubray, and James Moubray; and sisters, Marie Thomas, Helen Richardson,
and Virginia Richardson. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Leigh Moubray;
daughter, Anita M. Estes and husband, Marc, of Madison; son, Terry W. Moubray
and wife, Julie, of Culpeper; brother, Kays Moubray Jr. and wife, Thelma, of
Wolftown; sisters, Mildred Dowell of Orange, Violet Collier of Louisa, and
Lucille Dodson of Orange; in-laws, Martha Moubray of Barboursville and Dahlia
Leigh of Madison, Jesse Leigh Jr. of Stanardsville, and David and Louise Smith

Kays Moubray Jr., 91, of Madison, passed away on Friday, September 14,
2018, at his home. He was born on May 7, 1927, in Orange County, to the late
Kays Moubray Sr. and Annie Lee Mawyer Moubray. He was also preceded in death by
brothers, Luther, Lewis, Jim, and Walter Moubray; and sisters, Virginia
Richardson, Mildred Dowell, Lucille Dodson, Helen Richardson, and Marie Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Catherine Woodward Moubray; four daughters,
JoAnn M. Riggs and husband, Larry, of Romney, W.Va., Janet Marie M. Jenkins and
husband, Warren of Aroda, Linda Gale M. Johnson and husband, Richard, of
Barboursville, and Rebecca Lynn M. Shifflett of Stanardsville; son, David Alan
Moubray and wife, Wendy, of Rochelle; sister, Violet Collier of Fluvanna;
sister-in-law, Martha Moubray of Barboursville; grandchildren, Laurie Campbell,

KENNETH WAYNE MOUBRAY
Kenneth Wayne Moubray, 77, of McGaheysville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019,
at his home. He was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Rockingham County and was a son of the
late Virge Millard and Virginia Marie (Merica) Moubray. Kenneth was employed
with Riddleberger as a plumber for many years and enjoyed camping, fishing,
waterskiing and going to bluegrass festivals. He was a member of the Moose Lodge
No. 276, Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292 and was a charter member of the
McGaheysville Fire Company. He served our country in the United States Army
during the Vietnam War. On June 7, 1963, he married his first wife, Marlene M.
(Hensley) Moubray, who passed away on Sept. 11, 1999. In addition to his parents
and first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Oliver Moubray. He is
survived by his wife, Frances (Knight) Moubray; brother, Carroll Moubray and
wife, Betty; stepchildren, Keith Knight, Steve Knight and Elaine Knight;
grandson, Calvin Lawhorne; stepgrandchildren, Jonathan, Travis and Brian Knight;
nieces and nephews, Dave Moubray, Randy Moubray, Dale Moubray, Debbie Moubray,
Darrell Moubray, Pam Knight, Timothy Eppard and Melissa Eppard; and a number of
stepgreat-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mary Juanita Shifflett, 64, of Stanardsville, died Sunday, Oct 3, 1999, at the
University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born Oct 7, 1934, in Rockingham
County, a daughter of the late Bernard and Lizzie Shifflett Moubray. She is
survived by her husband of 45 years Clarence W. Shifflett, Sr.; a daughter Cindy
Shifflett and her Husband Donald; a son C. W. Shifflett, Jr., and his wife
Janice; two granddaughters, Amber Nicole whom she raised and to whom she devoted
her life and Anna Nicole with whom she got to share three months and a grandson
whom she cherished, Harry Lee, all of Stanardsville; two brothers, Leonard Ray
Moubray of Louisa and Willard Moubray of Elkton; and five sisters, Lena Mae
Cubbage of Shenandoah, Eva Morris and Frances Sims of Stanardsville, Elizabeth
Comer of Elkton and Faye M. Cason of Charlottesville. She was preceded in death
by two granddaughters, whom she raised, Chanda Marie and Susan Rae; and three
brothers, Vernon Moubray, Frank Moubray, and Billy Moubray. A funeral service

GORDONSVILLE - Mrs. James Moubray, 79, died Sunday at her home in Gordonsville,
leaving survivors numbering nearly twice her age, she has 148 direct
descendants. She was the former Myrta Crawford, daughter of the late Robert and
Josephine Morris Crawford. She was born in Greene County, Sept. 27, 1879. her
husband died in 1955. She leaves four sons, Kays Moubray of Thelma, Eugene
Moubray of Orange, Cary Moubray of Woodberry Forest, and Floyd Moubray of
Shelby; five daughters, Mrs. Charlie Fincham and Mrs. Charlie Moubray, both of
Gordonsville, Mrs. Cammie Brookman and Mrs. Beverly Crawford, both of Orange,
and Mrs. Aubrey Brookman of Oak Park; 52 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren
and a great-great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow
at Gordonsville Baptist Church, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery there.

MILDRED MOUBRAY DOWELL
Mildred Moubray Dowell, 95, of Orange, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017,
at the Hospice of the Piedmont Acute Care Center in Charlottesville. Born on
August 10, 1922, in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Kays and
Annie Mawyer Moubray. Her husband was the late Smith Slaughter Dowell. She was
also preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, James, Luther, and Lewis
Moubray; and four sisters, Virginia Richardson, Marie Thomas, Helen Richardson,
and Lucille Dodson. Mrs. Dowell is survived by a daughter, Frances A. Dowell of
Charlottesville; a granddaughter, Annia Dowell-Wiltshire of Richmond; a brother,
Kays Moubray Jr. and his wife, Thelma of Madison; and a sister, Violet Collier
of Louisa. Mildred's life was defined by her commitment to her family as a wife,
sister, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her love, devotion
and strength, and the care that she put into every piece of her fried chicken.
Her family would like to express it's appreciation to Dr. Eve Bargmann for her
years of loving care, to generous neighbors Debbie Bragan and Carrier Twyman who
helped her continue to live in her home, and finally to Donna Collier who
provided comfort in her final days. A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m.,
Thursday, August 24, 2017, in the Graham Cemetery, Orange. Pastor David Knighton

Rosa Moubray Hahn, 69, of Orange died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at the Martha
Jefferson Hospital. Born on June 4, 1936, in Orange County, she was the daughter
of the late Charlie Newton Moubray. She was a member of Blue Run Baptist Church
and employed at the Orange Country Nursing Home. Survived by her mother, Emma

Vernon S. Moubray, 66,
died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Gulfport. Mr. Moubray was a native of Virginia
and had been a Coast resident 40 years. He was a Protestant. He retired after 22
years service in the Air Force and retired after 30 years service at the
Veterans Administration facility in Gulfport. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Bernard and Lizzie Anna Shifflett Moubray; and two brothers, Frank
Moubray, and Billy Moubray. Survivors include his wife, Myrna Prather Moubray of
Gulfport; two daughters, Janice Drott of Jacksonville, Fla., and Phyllis Beard
of Gulfport; two brothers, Leonard Ray Moubray of Louisa, Va., and Willard

WILLARD SEBASTIAN MOUBRAY
Willard Sebastian Moubeary (Moubray), 84, of Redbrush Road, Elkton, died Friday,
Aug. 12, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health
for the past two and a half years. Mr. Moubeary was born April 5, 1921, in
Rockingham County and was the son of the late Bernard W. and Lizzy A. Shifflett
Moubray. He attended Blose and Fox Mountain schools in his youth. He served in
World War II, where he was stationed in the Philippines and was honorably
discharged in November 1946. He worked for the Department of Interior,
Shenandoah Park Services, where he retired in April 1986. On June 8, 1940, he
married the former Edith M. Dean; she survives. Also surviving are two sons,
Gerald (Jerry) and Keith Moubray, all of Elkton; six daughters, Judy Sellers,
Juanita Lam, Janice Campbell, Nancy Meadows and Joan Cave, all of Elkton, and
Debbie Moubray of Harrisonburg; a brother, Leonard Moubray of Bumpass; four

great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. The Rev. Robert Buchanan
will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
north of Elkton on Panorama Drive. Burial will be in the Elk Run Cemetery in
Elkton. His body will be taken to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Friends may also call at the
Moubeary home at any time. Arrangements are by Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

WILLIAM ALLEN MOUBRAY
William Allen Moubray, 56, of Harrisonburg, died May 10, 2013, at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1956, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of
the late William H. and Frances Teter Moubray. He was employed doing bridge
maintenance for VDOT. He had served in the Army Reserves and was a former post
commander of the New Market American Legion Post No. 166. He was a member of the
Mt. Valley United Methodist Church and a former governor of the Timberville
Moose. On Aug. 12, 1989, he married the former Patricia Crouse, who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Thomas Hartman and wife, Emily, of Bridgewater and Joe
“Hunky” Hartman and wife, Tiffany, of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Kimberley
Moubray of New Market; brothers, Danny Teter of Waynesboro and Bob Moubray of
Staunton; sister, Rhonda Gaye Breedon of Crimora; and grandchildren, Jailyn,
Carley, Hayden, Olivia, Ethan and Raleigh. The Revs. Valerie Ritter, Paul Ritter
and Erich Bennett will conduct a funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt.
Valley U.M.C. near Harrisonburg. Burial with military rites will follow at the
Fellowship Community Cemetery near Harrisonburg. The casket will be closed at
the church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Grandle
