ANNIE BRANHAM ROBERTS
Annie Branham Roberts, of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in
a local hospital. Born in Nortonsville, Virginia she was the daughter of the
late Robert N. Branham Sr., and Drucilla Shifflett Branham. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus E. Roberts; one son, Randolph W.
Roberts; two brothers, John O. Branham, Roberts N. Branham Jr.; and one great
grandson, Gary S. Shafer; and a son-in-law, Wendell W. Crickenberger. Mrs.
Roberts was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Charlottesville and was retired
from Teledyne. She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine R. Crickenberger; one
sister, June Branham Clift; a brother, Milton H. Branham, Sr., all of
Charlottesville; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and 11
great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7 until 8 p.m.
Friday, December 29, 2006, at the Teague Funeral Home. A graveside funeral
service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, in the Evergreen

CLABORN E. ROBERTS
BURNSVILLE -- Claborn Edison Roberts, of HCR No. 03, Box 190, Burnsville, died
Friday (Sept. 23, 2005) at Bath County Community Hospital, Hot Springs. He was
born Nov. 24, 1932 in Bath County, a son of the late Graves Francis and Nettie
(Deeds) Roberts. Prior to retiring, Mr. Roberts had worked at the Waynesboro
DuPont plant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Audry Ernestine Roberts; a brother, Emmett Roberts; and a sister,
Marie Jefferson. Survivors include his wife, Janet (McClain) Roberts; five sons,
Claborn Edison Roberts Jr., Terry Dean Roberts and Darrell Francis Roberts, all
of Staunton, and Ralph Todd Roberts and Kenneth Eugene Roberts, both of
Burnsville; a brother, Wendell Roberts of Staunton; and two sisters, Omeda
Shifflett of Churchville and Geneva Franklin of Hot Springs. A funeral will be
conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Burnsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Henry
Funeral Home.

DAVID L. ROBERTS
David L. Roberts of Palmyra, formerly Charlottesville, passed away on Friday,
August 2, 2013. Born in Albemarle County, on November 4, 1926, he was the son of
the late Charlie and Virgie Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife of 68
years, Helen B. Roberts; one son, David L. Roberts Jr. and wife, Dinah, all of
Palmyra; three granddaughters, Lori Roberts, Tiffany Good and Lindsay LeBlanc;
five great- grandchildren, Erin and Chase Stanley, Laci and Carson Kelly and
Liam LeBlanc; and a special friend, Angie Melton. Mr. Roberts was a life-time
member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville. He was a World War
II veteran and served in the South Pacific. He was retired from Virginia
Dominion Power with 35 years of service and was a model of honesty and honor.
His family was his life and he helped and loved everyone. He was a member of
Blue Lodge, Staunton, VA, Accepted Scottish Rite, Lynchburg, VA, Accepted ACCA
Temple A.A.O.N.M.S, Richmond. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at
11 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, in Holly Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Tom

DOROTHY ESTES ROBERTS
Dorothy Estes Roberts, 93 of Charlottesville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in a
local hospital. Born January 3, 1908, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter
of the late Lively Yelvelton Estes and Margaret Lawson Estes. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Fred E. Roberts Sr. of Charlottesville She was a member
of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and had retired from the University of
Virginia Hospital in 1974 after 34 years of service. Mrs. Roberts is survived by
two daughters, Rosa Roberts Thacker of Staunton and Dorothy Dudley and her
husband, Alfred, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Fred E. Roberts Jr. and his wife,
Naomi, of Charlottesville and Calvin L. Roberts of Keswick and by 11
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at
2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in the chapel of the Hill and Wood Funeral
Home. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive
friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

ELLWOOD LANE ROBERTS
Ellwood Lane Roberts, age 82, of Cleveland and formerly of Alleghany County,
died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born in
Alleghany County on May 30, 1926 to the late John Emmett and Delphia Cockerham
Roberts. He was a World War II veteran serving in Japan and the Philippines and
was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Royal Roberts; a son,
Darrell Roberts; and a grandson, Jack Lilies. He is survived by four daughters
and three sons-in-law, Elaine and David Cox, Belinda and Bill Shifflett, all of
Havre de Grace, Md., Shirley Haga of Cleveland and Debbie and Ted Bailey of
Haines City, Fla.; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Kenny and Mary Roberts
of Lake Wales, Fla., Eddie and Sharon Roberts of Winter Haven, Fla., Jimmy
Roberts of Edgewood, Md. and Bruce and Darlene Roberts of Windsor, Pa.; 22
grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alberta Jones of Galax, Va.
and Nellie Wood of Kernersville; a special friend, Marlene Marble; and several
nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Aug. 3 at Old Saddle
Mountain Union Baptist Church in Ennice with burial in Saddle Mountain cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by Bruce Wayne Osborne Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post No. 7034. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saddle Mountain

Fred Edward Roberts Jr., 87, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2020. Born on April 16, 1933, in
Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Fred E. Roberts Sr. and Dorothy
Estes Roberts. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Naomi S.
Roberts; and a sister, Rosa Thacker. He leaves behind a brother, Calvin Roberts
of Keswick, Va.; and a sister, Dorothy (Polly) Dudley of Pittsburgh, Pa. He is
survived by his sons, Ronnie Roberts (Cheryl) and Wayne Roberts; his daughter,
Lisa Roberts (Kenny); three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Fred,
also known as "Shorty", worked for many years as a bricklayer with R.E. Lee &
Sons and later with Rogers Masonry in Orange before retiring.He was a longtime
member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and a devoted family man. Special
thanks go to the staff at RoseWood Village in Hollymead for their kind and
considerate care for Fred. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, November 23, 2020, at Holly Memorial Gardens with Pastor Roi Savai'inaea

John A. Robertson Sr., 65, of Stanardsville, passed away at his residence,
Tuesday, May 23, 2006. He was born July 22, 1940, in Buckingham County to the
late Wilson J. and Jessie Watson Robertson. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, Russell Robertson and Jeff Robertson. He was an avid fisherman, NASCAR
enthusiast and a fan of Carl Edwards number 99. He loved the outdoors and was an
animal lover. He was a "fix-it man", liked to work on any machine or appliance
for anyone. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Mary
Robertson; three sons, Keith Robertson of Buckingham, Calvin Robertson and his
girlfriend, Toni Neff, of Louisa and John Robertson Jr. and his girlfriend,
Teresa Beahm, of Stanardsville; two grandchildren, Caleb and Candace Robertson;
one brother, Frank Robertson of Charlottesville; and one sister, Lucille Lang of
Buckingham; and his beloved dog "Peanut"; numerous nieces; nephews; and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Ryan
Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with Pastor James Omnie Shifflett officiating. The
committal service will conclude 2:30 p.m. in the Buckingham Community Cemetery,

John Samuel Roberts, 63, of Baltimore, Md., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1985, in a
Baltimore hospital. Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late Walter and
Maggie Roberts. Surviving are his wife, Audrey P. Roberts of Baltimore; one son,
Samuel Lewis Roberts of Baltimore; four brothers, James Roberts, Clark Roberts,
Irvin Roberts and Charles Roberts; three sisters, Edna Morris, Virginia Beverly
and Dorothy Via. He retired as supervisor after 38 years with Bethlehem Steel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at Evergreen Church of the
Brethren, Dyke, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, the Rev C. C. Kurtz will

John Wayne Roberts, 17, of Baltimore, Md., was killed instantly yesterday on
Park Street when the tractor he was operating overturned and crushed him. He was
born April 9, 1953, in Charlottesville, and was the son of John S. and Elizabeth
Shiflett Roberts of Baltimore. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother,
Lewis Samuel Roberts of Baltimore; three sisters, Miss Barbara Jean Roberts and
Mrs. Darline Reddinger of Baltimore and Mrs. Lois Joan Barnes of Georgetown, S.
C. The funeral will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Hill and Irving Funeral Chapel,

Mrs. Lenora S. Roberts, age 85, died Wednesday Night in the Liberty House
Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Virginia. She was born December 9, 1892 in Albemarle
County. She was the daughter of Hyden Shifflett and Mandy Morris Shifflett. She
was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie B. Roberts. The family suggest
donations may be made to the Gentry Cemetery Association. The family will

Mrs. Kye H. Shiflett
Mrs. Maggie M. Shiflett, 63, formerly of Albemarle County, died Wednesday in
Baltimore, Md., where she has lived for the past 40 years. Born in Albemarle
County April 21, 1906, she was the daughter of Mrs. Virgie Wood of Stanardsville
and the late Charlie Roberts. Her husband was the late Kye H. Shiflett. Besides
her mother, she is survived by three sons, Silbert, Rob and Nelson Shiflett of
Baltimore; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wood and Mrs. Welma Cook of Baltimore;
four brothers, Ellis Roberts of Baltimore; and three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Roberts
and Miss Estelle Roberts of Baltimore and Mrs. Clara Maupin of Free Union. Also
surviving are nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be
tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Hood-Clore Funeral Home in Quinque, with burial in

Mary Billie Roberts Shiflett, of Charlottesville, departed this world on Sunday,
Feb. 27, 2005, to now be joined with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, her
husband, Jim; and her son Steve. She was the daughter of the late Walker M.
Roberts and Willie G. Roberts of Charlottesville. She was preceded in death by
her devoted husband, James "Jim" Irvin Shiflett; her son, Steve Elwood Shiflett;
a great grandson, Scott Morris; and her brother, Walker M. Roberts Jr. She is
survived by a son, Robert A. Shiflett, I of Charlottesville, and a loving and
caring friend, Martha Yates of Gordonsville; two granddaughters, Kim Kidd and
her husband, Roy, and Denise Morris and her husband, David, all of Scottsville;
two grandsons, Robert A. Shiflett II and his wife, Holly, of Gordonsville,
Timothy A. Shiflett and his wife, Tammy, of Esmont; nine-great-granddaughters,
Christine Kidd, Ginger Kidd, and Sarah Kidd, Britny Morris, McKenna Morris,
Elainea Morris and Abigail Morris all of Scottsville, Allison Shiflett of
Gordonsville and Taylor Shiflett of Esmont; five great-grandsons, Nathaniel Kidd

many years. She was totally dedicated to her profession and was loved and
respected by both her peers as well as the many patients she cared for. She was

Ex-Prisoner of War Auxiliary, Member of the National Association of Retired
Federal Employees, Life member of Retired Nursing Association, and a member of
Maple Grove Christian Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m.

Mildred Roberts Shiflet, 81, formerly of Asheville, entered eternal life
Saturday, February 7, 2009, in Winter Garden, Florida. Mrs. Shiflet was a native
and resident most of her life of Buncombe County and had resided in Winter
Garden since 2001. She was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church and the daughter
of the late Melvin Tom and Martha Jane Lamb Roberts. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Cary A. Shiflet, who died in 1968; and her daughter,
Teresa Shiflet Cicek. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Vivian Roberts of Winter
Garden; nieces, Linda Head of Asheville, Debbie Gibbs of Greenville, S.C.,
Beverly Brooks of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Brenda McGraw of Boiling Springs, S.C.;
nephews, Gary Roberts of Morganton and Brian Roberts of Chulouta, Fla. The

Nettie F. Roberts, 81, of Earlysville, died June 3, 1987, at her home. She was
born March 4, 1906, in Greene County, daughter of the late Zeb and Melissa
Shifflett. Her husband was the late John W. Roberts. She is survived by two
sons, John Curtis Roberts of Earlysville and Wilmer W. Roberts of
Charlottesville; two daughters, Arvinia Marie Shifflett of Charlottesville and
Eleanor Lawson of Earlysville and one sister, Gertrude Morris of Dyke. Funeral

Rosa Roberts Shifflett, 85, of 1516 Lyndhurst Road, died Friday evening, (May 6,
1994) at Waynesboro Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born May
25, 1908, in Lyndhurst, the daughter of Betty Lee and Charles Allen Robertson.
She worked for Crompton-Shenandoah Company for 41 years and was a member of Oak
Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Dennis Lee Roberts, in Sept. 1957; her second husband, Sherman S. Shifflett, in
April 1992; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph H. (Mattie Ellen) Reed of Alexandria,
Mrs. J. Frank (Estelle) Henderson of Waynesboro and Mrs. Gurney (Ann) Dunn, also
of Waynesboro; and three brothers, John Robertson of Richmond, and Jesse
Robertson and Frank Robertson, both of Augusta County. She is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. A. C. (Helen) Frank of Waynesboro; one granddaughter, Mrs. Joseph
F. (Sandra) Wooden of Sterling; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Bruce of
Crimora, Mrs. Sadie Shifflett of Grottoes and Mrs. Pauline Fitzgerald of
Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no formal
visitation; however, friends may call between 4 and 7 pm today at the Waynesboro
Chapel of Etter Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside service
conducted for the immediate family at 10 am Tues. at Augusta Memorial Park by

Vada M. Roberts, 83, of Earlysville, died peacefully Saturday, February 16,
2008, at home surrounded by her children. Born in Albemarle County, Virginia, on
January 24, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Charles and Mabel
Wood Pirkey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis H. Roberts; a
son, Randy Roberts; and two brothers, Herbert Pirkey Jr. and Norman Pirkey. Mrs.
Roberts was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and was a retired
homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Wood and her husband, Carlton,
of Earlysville; two sons, Clarence Roberts and his wife, Jean, of
Charlottesville, Kermit Roberts and his wife, Ellen, of Churchville; one sister,
Patsy Cummings of Brookville, Florida; one brother, Fred Pirkey of Youngstown,
Ohio; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson
and several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 2
p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in Chestnut Grove Cemetery with Doctor H.
Cowen Ellis and the Reverend Lance King officiating. The family will receive
friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at the Teague Funeral
