December 7, 1959 - November 14, 2024
The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, VA, Nov. 21, 2024
Kathryn Diane
Shifflett Watson, 64 of Greene County passed away peacefully on Thursday,
November 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born
December 7, 1959, in Charlottesville, VA to the late Randolph Perry Shifflett
and Lorene Morris Shifflett. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Watson; one
daughter, Victoria "Tori" Watson; one son, Dustin Watson and wife, Gillian; one
sister, Cindy Lee and husband Roger and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews
whom she all adored. Kathy's family is what she took the most pride in and it
was her greatest joy to spend time with them all. Kathy was also very proud to
call her family's farm "home" her entire life. Her childhood on the farm began a
lifelong passion for taking care of animals and being outdoors. Kathy would
often come home with a rescue dog or cat and even pulled over once in an attempt
to help an injured black bear on the side of the road. Her caring nature led her
to a career in nursing and she was a registered nurse at the University of
Virginia Health System for over 30 years. She was a strong woman of faith and
never had any fear of the afterlife because she knew she would be with Jesus.
She loved music, especially country and gospel music, as she grew up singing in
church at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. She was also known to blast
Michael Jackson and dance with the vacuum cleaner as she was cleaning the house.
Kathy's true passion was being a mother and she was really the best anyone could
ask for. Kathy will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Kathy's family ask
that she be remembered for the joy she brought others in life not the sadness of
her passing. A memorial service will be held on Friday November 22nd at 11a.m.,
at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, VA. In lieu of flowers, please
consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, your local animal shelter or
American Farmland Trust in Kathy's name. Preddy Funeral Home, 59 Edgewood School

KENNETH
WAYNE SHIFFLETT
The Daily Memphian, Memphis, TN on May 16, 2024
Kenneth Wayne
Shifflett, Father, Grandfather, and genuinely great guy, peacefully flew to
Heaven on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was only 69 years old. Born the eldest of
three children on January 7, 1955 in Rocky Mount, NC to Kenneth and Berlie
Shifflett. The family relocated to Memphis, TN where he graduated from Sheffield
High School in 1973. Shortly after graduation, Kenneth began his career at
Kellogg's, working as a mechanic and first responder for 35 years until his
retirement in 2010. His favorite self-imposed job title was "Janitor" for
Jason's growing Domino's Pizza franchise. He was the maintenance guru and store
cleanliness champion. Kenneth packed a lifetime of experiences into his 69
years. He was a founding member of the Fairhaven Volunteer Fire Department in
1976. He built the house that he, Cheryl, and the kids would later live in when
he was only 22 years old. He became a pilot at age 21 and loved to fly his
Cessna 182, Piper Archer, and V-tail Bonanza. He spent many afternoons
congregating with his family and friends at his airplane hangar. As a young man,
he played tennis, football, basketball, water-skied, and was a scuba diver. He
was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish throughout his life. He
treasured the annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota. He was a precise
marksman who loved to shoot and discuss firearms. His favorite thing; however,
was sharing all these passions with the people he loved most. Kenneth had a
heart of gold. He worked himself beyond exhaustion for his family and friends
without complaint. He loved others through his actions and would give the shirt
off his back to anyone who needed it. Kenneth will always be remembered as the
go-to-guy, a rare breed, Mr. Fix It, and a Can Do…Never Say No type of man. He
was the most reliable individual around, a real live Superhero, and a true
Servant Leader. He was loved and respected by all his family and friends. His
impact on others was evidenced by the many people who came to tell him goodbye
as he spent his final weeks in hospice. Kenneth was preceded in death by his
father Kenneth Whitfield Shifflett and his sweet dogs Randolph, Bandit, Porsche,
Beethoven, and Jake. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl Shifflett; they
would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 17, 2024. He is also
survived by son Jason (Kelly) and daughter Leslie, mother Berlie, brother Larry
(Donna), and sister Deborah Marxen (Todd). His surviving grandchildren include
Ainsley, Vespa, Sasha, Pippa, and his favorite grand-dog, Wiggins. Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Central Church in
Collierville, TN. Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm with the Funeral
Service beginning at 12pm with the burial to follow. In lieu of traditional

Calvin Powell and Charlotte Knight Powell. In addition to her parents, she is

cousins that she loved dearly. In addition, she loved being with her

Kristie prided herself on being a "girl
mom, daughter, sister, and friend. Jesus' hopeful follower." She loved the Lord
with all of her heart, and her life reflected that. Kristie was a giver. She
gave her time, worldly possessions, kindness, and love. She wanted others to
know that they were loved and that they mattered. She also loved her flip flops,
Dr. Pepper, spending time at the ball field, the Lord's Chicken, writing, and
being with her family. Her blog (herimaginaryblog.wordpress.com) touched many
lives and will continue to bring comfort in the years to come.
"Our legacy is
really the lives we touch, the inspiration we give, altering someone's plan – if
even for a moment – and getting them to think, cry, laugh, argue. More than
anything, we are remembered for our smiles; the ones we share with our closest
and dearest, and the ones we bestow on a total stranger, who needed it right
then, and God put you there to deliver." – Carrie Hamilton.
A Celebration of
Life will be held on Friday, April 5th, at 11 am at Nortonsville Church of God.
