heavenly home on Tuesday, April 20, 2004. As he began to leave, he looked
intently at his wife of 63 years, Minnie "Nanny" Morris and then at each of his
children as though to say "good-bye." He was born Feb. 28, 1920 in Greene
County, to the late Jerry Lee Morris and the late Frances Morris. He leaves to
cherish his memory three sisters, Lettie Knight and husband Tom of Dyke; Eleanor
Breeden of Earlysville; and Irene Shifflett and husband Walter of Orange; two
brothers, Herman and wife Lorene and Charles; four daughters and their husbands,
Fay Calk and husband Carlton; Mae Haney and husband James; Lois Shore and
husband George; Diane Tucker and husband Harold. His son James preceded him in
death. A World War II veteran, he retired from the Virginia Department of
Transportation after 30 years of service. Quarter Horses were his passion. He
and "Nanny" had big hearts, which they opened without reservation to people in
need, including welfare and daycare children. Mr. Morris lived truths contained
in the scriptures. He regarded a good name as "better than great riches" and
lived his life according to that principle. His "word was his bond" and you
could always count on him to perform as he promised. The last year was very
difficult for him. He lost his ability to get out and around and strokes began
to take their toll. The people helping him with his daily needs are too numerous
to name. However, outstanding in their care were Judith Nordensen and Shelly
Gormes. Other people dedicated to his welfare are Dr. Byron Osborne and wife
Marcie; Dr. William Grant and wife Karen; and Patti and Jim Katapka. We will
miss him but in our heart of hearts his memory will remain. A funeral service
will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Teague Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends
from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Teague Funeral Home. Teague Funeral Service is in
charge of arrangements. NOTE: In this obit Charles would be his half brother
Charles Wesley Shifflett and Herman is his half uncle who was the s/o James
Huston Morris and Amanda Lee Herring. Herman was married to a Stella Lorean
Morris. Herman is called a brother because Hustin (Herman's dad) raised Wilbert,
so they grew up together.

HAROLD RICHARD MORRIS JR.
Harold (Hal)
Richard Morris Jr. passed from this life in Manhattan, New York, November 24,
2021. Hal was a loving son and brother who always saw the best in others, which
was instilled into him by his late father, Harold Richard Morris Sr. Hal was a
graduate of Montevideo High School and James Madison University, and after
finishing studies moved to New York to study at The American Academy of Dramatic
Arts. Hal enjoyed many aspects of living in Manhattan and one of his most
memorable and satisfying professions was working at Macy's Department Store with
a team for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Working in Real Estate was
another effort he excelled in for a brief time and Hal often dedicated much of
his time volunteering and reaching out to those in need at the Holy Apostles
Soup Kitchen. Hal's greatest passion besides family was philosophy and the human
condition, which he studied in depth. He left behind many writings and journals
that could be of service to others. Hal would often share that even with the
highs, lows, and challenges that come from living, that he had a happy life. As
the years grew his great love for family would be his best and most endearing
trait. He is survived by his mother, Betty Lou McAlister Morris, a brother
Christopher Morris, and was preceded in death by his father, Harold Richard
Morris, Sr. Rest in peace Hal, you will be missed by those who felt your caring
spirit and generous heart, which includes many exceptional relatives and
friends.

ICY MORRIS
Mrs. Icy Morris died Jan. 20, 1926, at home of her son, Charlie Morris, at
Beasler Mill, aged about 36. Mrs. Morris was in bad health for a number of
years, but had kept on getting worse as the years passed. Cancer of the breast
was the cause of her death. Icy, as she was called by everybody, was loved and
respected by all. To know her was to love her. She was a Christian woman having
connected herself with God a number of years ago. She was a member of Binghams
Methodist church and attended when able to do so. She lived on the old Bickers
place for a number of years, and up to the death of her husband who it will be
remembered, was killed as a car went over an embankment at Rio about three years
ago. That left her and one daughter alone. She was compelled to break up house
keeping and live with her son. She didn't want to do so for she felt as if there
was no place like home. She never made many trips after she left her home. She
said when she left, "Please when I die bury me in the old Bickers grave yard."
Her request was carried out. She was buried a very bad day. Not many there to
see her laid away--- Icy, who was so kind to every one she came in contact with.
We all feel she is better off and she is out of her suffering. Icy leaves to
mourn her loss her aged father, three sisters and two children, Mr. Charlie
Morris with whom she lived and Miss Addie Morris. She was laid to rest in the
grave yard beside her husband, Messrs. C. L. Bickers & Son were the undertakers.
The course is finished, the life is spent. The body to the clay. The deed of
life a monument. For the disclosing of that eternal day. One who knew her well.
NOTE: The year of death is listed as 1926 but the Newspaper was Feb 1925
