George W. Shifflett, son of Sinclair Shiflett, enlisted on on 4/18/1861 as
private, Co I, 10th VA Infantry at Conrad's Store, Rockingham County, Virginia.
He was killed in action at the second battle of Manassas on August 30, 1862.
George was 6'0", sandy hair, grey eyes.

On this 30th day of March 1863 personally appeared before me the Subscriber
a justice of the peace in & for the County aforsaid St Clair Shifflet who after
being Sworn according to law deposes and says that he is the Father of George
W. Shifflet deceased who was a private of Capt. Wm D. C. Covingtons Company ( I
), 10th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers commanded by Colonel E. L. N. ?????? in
the Service of the Confeferate States in the present war with the United States
that the Said George W. Shifflet entered the Service at Conrads Store in
Rockingham County & State of Virginia on the 18th day of April 1861 and was
killed in battle on the 30th day August 1862 leaving no wife nor never havin bin
married.
That he makes this
deposition for the purpose __ ( covered by seal ) __ from the Goverment of the
Confederate States whatever __ ( covered by seal ) __ been due the Said George
W. Shifflet at the time __ ( covered by seal ) __ for pay bounty on other
allowances for his Services as __ ( covered by seal ) __ aforsaid

fifteen years George W. Shifflet the deceased Soldier herein mentioned & that
the statement made under oath by said St Clair Shifflet the claiment as to his
relationship to the said deceased Soldier is true & correct in every particular
to the best of my knowledge and belief, and that he the Said Wm Crawford is
whole disentensted
