The Micajah and Milly Shifflett family is an enigma - found an entry for this family in the 1860 Rockingham Co. Census but not in 1850, 1870, etc. From the death record of Henry C. Shifflett in Rockingham Co., he is apparently the son of Micajah and Milly but I could never pin down any info on the other children listed. Also the date of birth is way off - 1818 if calculated from his death record and 1834 if calculated from the census record. I could never find any information in the census or other records that really cleared up the mystery. Any thoughts?

WILLIAM HENRY SHIFFLETTE
Wm. Shifflett Passes Away - William Henry Shifflette, 88, a lifelong resident of Rockingham County, who made his home in Harrisonburg and also the Pleasant Valley community for a number of years, died at 6:30 Wednesday evening at the Cleck Nursing Home, 908 West Beverly Street in Staunton. Mr. Shifflette, who enjoyed exceptionally good health for a person of his advanced years, suffered a fall five months ago in Harrisonburg. In order that he might be close to his daughter, Mrs. Virginia Dull, who makes her home in Staunton, he was removed to the nursing home. His condition became serious last Wednesday and since that time he grew progressively worse. Little hope had been held for his recovery in recent weeks. Mr. Shifflette was born on November 16, 1864 in the Spader1s Church section of Rockingham County and spent practically his entire life in the Pleasant Valley community and in Harrisonburg. For the past eight years, he had made his home at the Mrs. W. A. Monger Rooming and Boarding Home in Harrisonburg. Mr. Shifflette was well known throughout the county, and had a host of friends. He was a member of the St. Jacob1s (Spaders) Lutheran Church. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Frank A. (Virginia) Dull Sr., of Staunton; Mrs. O. W. (Eva) Smith, of Baltimore; Charles H. Shifflette, of Winter Park, Fla., and Edward G. Shifflette, of Brunswick Maryland. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Frank Dull Jr., of Staunton; and Howard G. Dull, of Harrisonburg; and one great grandchild, Deborah Lynn Dull, of Harrisonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. A son, Howard preceded him in death on December 5, 1943, and a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Perez, died in October 1951. Another daughter died in infancy a number of year ago. Mr. Shifflette was the last surviving member of his immediate family as all of his brothers and sisters had preceded him in death. The body now rests at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg pending the arrival of relatives from a distance and the completion of final funeral arrangements which will be announced in Friday1s News-Record.

Funeral services for William Henry Shifflette, a native of the Spaders Church section of Rockingham County, a former resident of the Pleasant Valley community where he had spent practically his entire life, and a resident of Harrisonburg for the past eight years, who died Wednesday evening at the Cleek Nursing Home on West Bererley Street in Staunton will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 from the chapel of the Lindsey Funeral home. The Rev. Lloyd Gochenour and the Rev. Forest Racey, will conduct the services and burial will be in the family lot in the St. Jacobs (Spaders) Lutheran church near Pleasant Valley. The body now rests at the Lindsey funeral home where relatives, friends and pallbearers are asked to meet Saturday morning. Mr. Shifflette is survived by four children, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dies At Home, Pleasant Valley Stone Mason Had Wide Acquaintance - Edward Grove Shifflett, 80, a resident of the Pleasant Valley Community for the past 40 years and a retired stonemason, died Wednesday evening at nine o'clock at his residence. Mr. Shifflett, who had been in his usual good health took ill while working his garden last Wednesday. A son of the late Henry C. and Mary Grove Shifflett, he was born on Nov. 16, 1867 in Shenandoah County where he spent his early childhood. At the age of nine his family moved to Rockingham and for the past forty years, Mr. Shifflett had made his home in the Pleasant Valley Community, where he was a well known stonemason. For a number of years, he operated a stone quarry at Pleasant Valley for the late Charles Loewner, and prior to his retiring three years ago did stonemason work for himself. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church. On March 15, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Flick, of Pleasant Valley, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Mrs. C. F. Shuamker, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Lillian Edwards, Baltimore; Robert F. Shifflett, Washington, and Mrs. Brenda Lee Hintym, Lexington; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, W. H. Shifflett, Harrisonburg. Brief funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at three o'clock from the residence in the Pleasant Valley Community, with the Rev. Elias A. Kessler in charge of the services at three-thirty o'clock from the grave in the Spader's Church Cemetery. The body will rest at the Lindsey funeral Home on South Main Street until one-fifteen o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon when it will be taken to Mr. Shifflett's late residence.

DOUGLAS HOWARD SHIFLET
Funeral services for Chief Pharmacist®s Mate Douglas Howard Shiflet, USCG, will be held at 2 P. M. tomorrow at his home, 2912 White avenue. Burial will be in Baltimore National Cemetery. The 30-year-old Coast Guardsman, who had been expecting a transfer to the South Pacific, died in his sleep Sunday morning. He apparently had been in good health when he retired Saturday night. A native of Virginia, Pharmacist®s Mate Shiflet came to Baltimore in 1922 and was employed by a local life insurance company prior to his enlistment in January, 1941. He was a member of Washington Lodge, No. 3, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He had served at sea for thirteen months before being assigned to the Coast Guard yard here. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Josephine Shar; his patents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shiflet, Harrisonburg, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Smith and Mrs. Catherine Percy, Baltimore, and Mrs. Virginia Dull, Staunton, Va., and two brothers, Lieut, Charles Shiflet, USN, and Edward Shiflet.

HOWARD SHIFFLETT
Howard Shifflett, 41, chief pharmacists mate, US Navy, son of W. H. Shifflett, West Elizabeth Street, Harrisonburg, died suddenly from a heart attack Sunday morning at 4:30 am at his home at Baltimore. Shifflett was born near Pleasant Valley. He was employed at Fletchers Pharmacy before going to Baltimore 16 years ago. He served one enlistment in the Navy and was discharged. He reenlisted after Pearl Harbor. Funeral services will be held from the home in Baltimore Wednesday at two o'clock. More details will be published later. Shifflett was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Shifflett of Pleasant Valley.

Yes, I know where Lillian is buried. Actually I sent you photos from Spader®s Cemetery in a couple emails back. Warren is definitely not buried there. I believed they were estranged at the end of the relationship because Lillian lived with my grandparents until her death in 1959. This may have been as early as WWII because Warren®s address is different from Lillian®s on the registration card. Family lore is he had an issue with the bottlebut who really knows
