Who Killed Cock Robin?
  Florence Shiflett

Song 8 notes

Oh, who killed Cock Robin?
Oh, who killed Cock Robin?
It's I said the sparrow,
With my little bow and arrow.
It was I, it was I killed Cock Robin.

Oh, who dug his grave?
Oh, who dug his grave?
It's I said the crow,
With my little crooked toe.
It was I, it was I dug his grave.

Oh, who made his coffin?
Oh, who made his coffin?
It's I said the snail.
With my little hammer nail.
It was I, it was I that made his coffin.

Oh, who preached his funeral?
Oh, who preached his funeral?
It's I, said the owl,
Just as hard as I could growl.
It was I, it was I preached his funeral.

This song was sung to me by Florence Shifflett in response to my inquiry about songs especially for children. It is of a maturely somber mood and the fluctuation between the B flat and B natural in its scale lends an eerie color to this old English nursery rhyme.
