John Shiflett Jr.
Compiled by: Chester R. Johnson d. 2001

I believe that the John Shiflett in the Orange Co.-Louisa Co. records in the 1736-1750 time period, who lived in the area that would be taken from Louisa in 1762 and added to Albemarle Co., was the father of John Shiflett Jr. b. 1735-1740. No other records of a Shiflett of his probable age, of any other given name of that time period have been found. Any data not listed here is welcomed. There may be a record or two of a John Shiflett Sr. during this time period that is listed under John Jr. but there is now way to prove which belongs to which. They could have easily been the action of either of the men and therefore no confusion is created by this. The real find in this research was the packet of papers filed with the land grant information on Lewis Shiflett. These are listed at the end.

This compilation includes several entries that mention Stephen Shiflett, who I think was a brother of John Jr. They are very often listed in the records together. Most significient is that they both marry daughters of John Powell, decd.

John Shiflett Jr. is thought to have been born about 1735-1740. He was shown to be married by the early 1760s by the estate records of John Powell, decd.
