The Hansboro News, Towner County, North Dakota, May 19, 1916 Surrounded by a posse of deputy sheriffs and citizens, Anfield Shiflet, twenty-four years old, suspected of killing his father, Joe Shiflet, a farmer east of Carrington and burning the body in a straw pile, committed suicide at Selz, Pierce County. Anfield Shiflet, who killed himself near Carrington when confronted by arrest for the murder of his father, was made the beneficiary in a $2,000 insurance policy issued several months ago and police officials believe this supplies motive for the crime.

Shuffled, Joseph Berry and his wife Sarah F., Levi G. and his wife Parthena, Cornelius T. Shiflett and his wife Moria, of the first part and Milton B. Shiflett of the second part and all of Greene. Co. & State of Virginia, Witnesseth that the said Christena Shiflett, the widow of Benson Shiflett, deceased, Henry B. Shiflett and his wife Martha J. Shiflettt, Joseph Berry and his wife Sarah F., Levi J. and his wife Parthena, Cornelius T. Shiflett and his wife Moria, for and in consideration of seventy-five dollars current money of Virginia to them paid in hand by the said Milton B. Shiflett doth convey all our interest in a small lot or parcel of land in the county of Greene Lying on the county line mountain Beginning on a pine and mapil and starting on the south side of Lincues River thence a straight line to the top of the hill corner a chestnut thence a straight line to a corner Hickory thence a straight line to the line of A.J. Longs line, thence with his line to the river and with the River to the Beginning, containing thirty acres be the same more or less and each for himself & heirs does warrant generally to the said Milton B. Shiflett their entire interest in the above mentioned lot or parcel of land, Severally conveyed Witness the following signatures and seals the day and year first above written

This deed made and entered into on this 29th day of March 1895 Between Anfield Shiflett, L. G. Shiflett, Sarah Berry and the heirs of Calvey Shiflett, Dec'd of the first part and C. T. Shiflett of the second part all of the State of Virginia, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and ninety-four dollars in hand paid by the said C. T. Shiflett of the second part to Anfield Shiflett, L. G. Shiflett, Sarah berry and the heirs of Calvey Shiflett, Dec'd. of the first part do bargain sell and convey to the said C. T. Shiflett a certain part of their interest in a certain tract of land without lot --- Wm. D. Roberts and his mother of the graveyard and is reserved in this deed Sor--or-- to be one hundred acres more or less lying and being in Greene County State of Virginia as follows Commencing on the Lynches River at the church lot corner, thence with said creek to a maple corner to Wm. D. Roberts and his wife Martha J. Roberts corner, thence south to a poplar, thence south west to Richard Shifletts old line, thence with said line to Rebecah and Jane Shifletts line, thence with Mary Powell's line and others to the Beginning the said C. T. Shiflett, this being the land owned by Benson Shiflett Dec'd and to have and to hold free form all other claims forever as witness our hands and seals day and date above written,
